President Obama

Today, I have listened to a number of republican vultures speaking to television cameras, pretending to be offended that President Obama is not visiting the border. In their diseased minds, these talking heads believe that President Obama has an obligation to go to the Mexican border, and declare that no one shall cross. I believe that President Obama should consider another response …..

There are times when the President of the United States must address the nation on specific issues involving social justice. Two great examples come to mind. On June 11, 1963, President Kennedy spoke to us about Civil Rights: “We are confronted primarily with a moral issue. It is as old as the Scriptures, and is as clear as the American Constitution..”

On March 15,1965, President Johnson told Congress and the American people of the dire need for the nation to deal with the hatred that required laws such as the Civil Rights and the Voting Rights Acts. He famously stated: “And we shall overcome.”

As a candidate, Barack Obama gave a powerful speech, “A More Perfect Union,” on March 18, 2008 in Philadelphia. This was in response to a controversy involving Rev. Wright’s sermons. While I didn’t find Rev. Wright offensive, I felt that Obama delivered one of the greatest of American speeches.

I’d like to see President Obama respond to the crisis at the border, involving thousands of children, by speaking to the nation. I am calling and e-mailing the White House, to express this hope. I hope that you will consider doing the same.

Peace,
H2O Man

. . . and wondered if he could galvanize public opinion with such a speech.

What I wonder about is whether his ultimate actions will reflect the ideals I'd expect him to express in an address.

He has the ability to communicate deeply-held beliefs and values. He could help a heck of a lot of people understand the issues involved -- primarily, the well-being of children.

I hope like heck he does this. It's a perfect opportunity for him to help this nation recapture its humanity.

I agree that they would whine, no matter what President Obama does. I could puke when I see republicans attempting to exploit this, in order to increase donations to their campaigns.

has never made a statement to the peoples of the CA nations not to send their children to the US. Burgess ignored Hayes' calling him on this and several other inaccuracies and continued to talk over Chris in the fashion that Newt Gingrich schooled the Rs in so long ago.

Few things are as obnoxious as those who believe that being louder and rude, makes them "right." I admired Mr. Hayes' ability to confront Burgess's stupidity.

Against little brown 'balrogs' that weigh 40 pounds or so?

I think he needs to save his 'None Shall Pass!' for 2014, post-election, in case Repubs do actually take the Senate.

He'll be needing to do a lot of vetoes if that happens.

resigned in the last month over nasty comments about Hillary Clinton in one case and voting rights in another.
The Chairman of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans quit his position at the beginning of July with a blistering letter about the extremists in the Republican Party, left the Party and became a Democrat. An excerpt from his missive:

"Finally, I believe the Republican Party has not done enough to put a stop to the hatred and cruel words and actions of the far right extremist in the party. The Republican Party consistently says they are trying to appeal to minorities, but this will never happen when we allow members of party to say cruel and ignorant things about Women, African Americans, Hispanics, and other minorities in our country. I simply cannot be apart of organization that have members who support these far right extremist views, much less be the Chairman of the organization. So in conclusion, I, Evan Alvarez, am hereby resigning my position as Chairman of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans, as well as my membership at the Mississippi State Chapter of MFCR. This change is effective immediately!"

In my opinion, it is better in some ways to not have the extremist-comic candidate in a specific state, for they serve to take attention off the corrupted positions of the rest of the republican candidates. There are definite benefits to tying the other republicans to the overall right-wing of their party, and the corporate domination of virtually all republicans in Washington, DC, rather than having one punching bag.

to think of any rational person who would hope that President Obama would advocate making an insecure border. I guess that would be Sean Hannity's wettest dream.

According to "Morning Joe," even a dip-shit like Glen Beck recognizes that the humanitarian crisis at the border is distinct from border security. Thus, I believe that the president could communicate the nature of the crisis -- its historic roots, its victims, and potential solutions.
