Well, weve certainly been treated to a meltdown in what passes for the Right in this country in the age of Obama.
The examples are legion. Obamas election, a moment seen by many of us as a signal achievement, also brought out, well, the lunatics who saw their country falling away from them. From Joe You Lie Wilson to Second Amendment solutions, weve had almost six years of increasingly unhinged rhetoric, rhetoric which was once confined to the purview of Aryan Nationsor Ron Paulnewsletters.
Imagine, if you will, if Bruce Springsteen had called George W. Bush a subhuman cowboy. Even The Boss might not have been popular enough to withstand the torrent of opprobrium.
And yet, here we have belle of the right wing ball, Ted Nugent, calling President Obama a subhuman mongrel, with the man whom he was supporting, Republican candidate for governor of Texas Greg Abbott, not casting him aside with the mornings recycling. Nugent apologized, not for the content of his remarks, but because it embarrassed his friend Abbott (who, again, showed no signs of being embarrassed).
It gets even better at the link. I don't know if TOD has a copyright restriction, so I'm keeping to 4 paragraphs. I suggest those who want more from Liberal Librarian (one of the best posters there) go to:

IDK why, but EarlG's images show up immediately for me,, but there are a lot of OPs now that as I scroll down, there is no image. No matter if I come back to check, they are not there as I'm zooming past.
Sheshe suggested it was because of Twitter. Just my browsing habits, I go too fast. My mind goes much faster than the computer does and if I don't see it as soon as the text, i assume something is wrong.
It looks like AZ is getting a lot of pushback from some of the GOP and business community. I read one piece that said how was the owner going to know someone is gay or not?
As if they had nothing better to do in AZ. Some really awful links now between the AFA and Russia and all of that. I'm so sick of this RWNJ crap!

Apple to Arizona: Anti-gay bill puts Mesa sapphire plant at risk
Apple (AAPL) confirmed Monday that it has urged Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to veto a bill that would allow business owners with strongly held religious beliefs to deny service to gays and lesbians.
Since the Arizona statehouse passed the measure last Thursday, Gov. Brewer has faced growing pressure to kill the bill that opponents characterize as "state-sanctioned discrimination."
Three state senators who voted for the bill are now asking her to veto it. So are Arizona's two U.S. Senators: John McCain and Jeff Flake, both Republicans. American Airlines (AAL) and Marriott (MAR) have warned that an anti-gay law could be bad for business.
We don't know who at Apple phoned the Governor, or what exactly was said. But it was only last November that Tim Cook announced that Apple was building a sapphire glass plant in Mesa, AZ, that would bring 2,000 new jobs to the state.

(25,699 posts)I mean take the basic premise of this one here.
God created a person in a garden, then yanked a rib out of the person to make another person wh was female. They wander around the garden, until a talking snake convinces the female to eat the magic fruit that God put right there to be all like "this is super magic fruit but don't eat because boojum boojum boojum!" so she chows down, passes some to her boyfrien, and the first thing they nitice was "holy shit our crotches are showing!" And because of this mankind is cursed ot suffer through life only to be cast into an eternity of anguish in the afterlife, unless we accept the immortal being's sacrificing itself to itself in order to alleviate a curse that it levie and wouldn't have been a problem in the first place if he weren't such a dick.
If you can believe that with a straight face, everything else must come pretty easily.

(9,457 posts)in a place of business was an issue. Sure, I know the bigots would do what bigots do but I didn't think they would come right out in a business and say basically "you look gay, you can't buy a cake here." I thought that was one of the reasons the woman who did that sparked the legal challenge. I know it's a problem in a more subtle way, nasty looks, making someone wait longer than other customers, that sort of thing but of all the problems gays faced I wasn't aware that was one of them. I'm not trying minimize the problem, I'm just surprised I learned of a problem I wasn't aware of before.
Behind the Aegis
(53,922 posts)It just wasn't at a legislative level.
As president of the gay student organization, I was refused service more times than I count. They simply would not do business with a "homosexual group." The year before I took over as president, someone took a "roll" of people at one of our meetings and PUBLISHED it. Several people reported not being served at restaurants, who are allowed to "refuse service" for any reason, even unstated.
Years later, I was serving as the advisor of a gay student organization, we were refused service at a t-shirt place, as well as a catering company. The upside to that was the university threatened to pull all of their accounts and make them persona non grata if they refused our business. The downside, the fucked up our order.
Also, if you look just a bit further down, you will see I had a near "hit" years ago when I was going to a Cracker Barrel with my grandparents. So, yes, this has been happening for a LONG time, just not at a legislative level.

Arizona's legislators should be made to feel so ashamed they will dread to come out in public.

My question is how do they know you're gay--you know in order to refuse you service? Are they going to ask every time 2 women/2men come in together?

(53,922 posts)People like me would be screwed (dead people know I am gay). I faced this back in the day when Cracker Barrel was doing something similar. They would throw out gay people, and it did happen. I was with my grandparents and we stopped at a CB. I was so scared because I was out to them at the time. If something would have happened, chances are Nanny would had to hold back my grandfather. Thankfully, it was too crowded and we left.

It is not uncommon for people to write "legislature" when they mean "legislator".
Also, it would be "similarities between this and this" because you can't have similarities in a single unit ("similarities in this" .

She has 'till Friday to Veto..
Facing heavy pressure to veto anti-gay bill, Brewer is taking her sweet time
She's been following it ... yet she's not sure what she'll do about it. Sources say Brewer is likely to veto the bill, but her delay is not exactly a profile in courage. A veto would also come after a long list of Republicans, including both of Arizona's United States senators, had urged Brewer to reject the bill, as have many business interests and the host committee of next February's Super Bowl, which will be held in the state.
But heaven forbid Brewer do anything hasty here. Even if she does veto it, she's first pretending that allowing businesses to refuse service to gay people is worth serious consideration over a period of days, rather than a swift "hell, no" right off the bat. Not exactly the strongest rejection of bigotry there.
