Houston preschool, elementary cancel NRA gun safety classes

Yes, as in Houston, Texas.

Two Houston school district principals have cancelled gun-safety presentations for their young students since learning the National Rife Association is involved.

A spokesman for the Houston Independent School District said the principals of Peck Elementary and the Martin Luther King Early Childhood Center thought the safety lessons were being taught by the Metropolitan Transit Authority police department.

(snip)

"The principals made a decision they didn't want to participate in an event that folks could perceive as them taking a position one way or another on the gun control debate or any other debate the NRA is involved in," Spencer said Tuesday.

1. The NRA is a terroristic propaganda group. In olden days, they would not be allowed to exist

May Mike Bloomberg spend $100 more in every district that is needed to defeat the terrorists and their WMD

After all we wouldn't want children being told that if they see a gun they should stop, don't touch it, and tell an adult.

Think of the horrors that could result from such an extremist program!

Let the police do it, they';e not terrorists like the NRA, a group it seems you are fond of.

They don't run the classes themselves. Something many people never understood about the Lanzas. Even most cops are taught by NRA certified instructors.

Not sure about the Eddie the Eagle program, but all the rest are locally operated.

8. Is your post in support of a lobbying group that largely supports RIGHT WING REPUBLICANS

... and actively campaigns against Democrats and liberals?

It certainly reads that way. If that is the case is this really a forum for you?

Others have suggested safety classes taught by law enforcement personal and not a right wing political lobbying group

We have that Eddie the Eagle program in our district. I seem to be the only one who is opposed to it, however. Unfortunately it is brought to us by district employees, including the one who dresses in the eagle costume.

Would local police or military do it?

I learned gun safety from Catholic priests, but I imagine they are out of that now.

there are no other courses for gun safety besides the NRA.
I can qualify that by saying no major sponsor as there may be some local programs. If you search for gun safety for kids, everything comes back with either NRA instructors or some non-gun groups that refer you to the NRA program.

Even the police use the NRA materials. Never thought about priests...
