This spew of an op-ed appeared on my Yahoo page:

Only read it if you have a strong stomach, but basically he's using the 1991 Luby's massacre as an argument that the only solution to the nation's gun violence problems are more guns in the hands of "law abiding citizens":
" O)nly law abiding people obey gun laws. More gun laws only lead to more defenseless victims of mass shootings.
Unlike in Texas, the initial Congressional response to the Sandy Hook shooting was to push for massive infringements on the Second Amendment. In the face of scathing criticism, the Senate recently rejected extreme gun control proposals that even supporters had admitted would have done nothing to prevent mass shootings. "
He ends the piece by parroting the Wayne LaPierre line, " T)he only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."
One notable omission for Stockman, however. The shooter in the Luby's massacre, George Hennard, purchased his weapons legally:
http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20111193,00.html
"In February 1991 he legally purchased two pistolsa Ruger P89 and a Clock 17in Henderson."
Hennard had a prior criminal record and a history of substance abuse and mental illness, and yet he was able to easily legally purchase weapons? Why are more guns the issue to Stockman and not the fact that this massacre was perpetrated by someone who in Stockman's mind was a "good guy with a gun?"
But what can you expect from a Congressman who thinks a man who stopped bathing and crapped his pants to get out of service in Vietnam was a "patriot"?
