Hens acting like roosters... some homespun bonobo wisdom

One of the things I love here on DU is the kind of homespun, allegorical "folk wisdom" that those who fancy they are older and wiser like to try to impart from time to time.

So I decided to see if I could write one myself.
----------------------------------------------
I see lots of DU'ers here bemoaning the lack of true Progressives these days. It kinda reminded me of growing up back on the farm. Those were simpler times then and a boy can learn lots from growing up on a farm.

Ya see, back when I was growing up, my old Pa used to help me clean the chicken coops on the farm. I loved those chickens and I used to watch Pa cluck his little chicken song as he fed them each morning.
One morning, one of those crisp, clean mornings with the sun coming up over the fields - the kind that makes you happy to have grown up in the country - I heard the "cock-a-doodle-do" of a rooster.
I turned to my Pa and said "But Pa, we ain't got a rooster! How come I hear a rooster calling?"

He turned to me, a smile creasing his worn, leathery face, and said "Son, when there ain't no roosters, one of the hens always starts to act like one."

So next time you look at the National henhouse and you wonder where all the real roosters have gone and why that favorite hen of yours is cocka-doodle-doing, just remember my little homespun tale.

Sexist, inappropriate

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Apr 30, 2013, 07:42 AM, and the Jury voted 1-5 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's just silly talk. Doesn't bother me (female).
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: This is the nuttiest thing I've read all day. It's so ridiculous, anyone offended by the sexism can wave it off on that basis.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: It is disgustingly sexist. I hope the jury is advanced enough to recognize it. I have my doubts, though.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: seriously?
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Is this a serious alert? Hard to tell nowadays.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

The play has been on Broadway for so long, now, even the most committed actors are getting tired of saying the same lines over and over.

I've been on juries for trolls lately. That adds some flavor.

Ideally, this line should appear in all homespun tales of wisdom. Nice job

edited to add: It was about the funniest thing I'd ever heard, when I was 8.

As everyone clearly knows, my emotional maturity hasn't really improved since then.
