Could Kirsten Gillibrand run for president?
By: Maggie Haberman
Theres a female politician from New York who is beloved by gay rights activists, has amassed a national fundraising network and is viewed by many Democrats as a viable presidential candidate...her name is not Hillary Clinton.
If Clinton runs for president, New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrands time wont be in 2016. But the junior senator from New York, who holds Clintons former seat and is often overshadowed by the states better-known political figures, is quietly building a résumé that would allow her to be taken seriously should she ever decide to run for president.
<...>
I find her to be very impressive, said the champion of the left circa 2004, Howard Dean. She often underwhelms people at first sight, (but) when you look under the hood, you find a first-class political mind and someone who has a great deal of skill.
<...>
If Hillary doesnt run, I think theres going to be a legitimate woman candidate, and its likely to be Kirsten Gillibrand, Dean said. She has changed her positions, he said, but she doesnt do it in a way that seems to alienate her base.

(14,941 posts)1. Kirsten is a wonderful public servant and would be a great candidate.
I believe she will eventually make the run for president. I have met her on many occasions and she is wonderful.

We don't need to give the Albany political machine any more power.

(11,464 posts)4. Not if Hillary is running. But the next President will be a woman!
and there are 3 other choices for 2,3,4- Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius, Kirsten and Elizabeth Warren.
One thing about NY- there are 3 or 4 NYers who could be President, but after Hillary, I would think Bloomberg would be the 2nd if he were to run as a democratic candidate, then Kirsten, and then Andrew, who's reputation took a big blow after Ed Koch died and brought to light the old major scandal the Cuomo's had.
If Hillary runs, the VP cannot be from NY, so Kirsten would have to move.
