Mark Zuckerberg's Political Group Is Trashing Obama And Obamacare And Promoting Wildlife Oil Drilling
If you want to get a feel for how American politics really works, as opposed to the way they tell you it works, look no further than what's going on behind the scenes at the new political action group started by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and dozens of other Silicon Valley tech leaders.
This organization, FWD.us, describes itself as a nonpartisan entity dedicated to promoting immigration reform, education reform, and the "knowledge" economy.
<snip>
For example, here's an ad produced by a FWD.us subsidiary called "Americans For A Conservative Direction." The ad supports Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) and praises him for supporting the Keystone Pipeline, trashing Obama and Obamacare, and dissing our current government as "Chicago-style politics" (another shot at Obama). The ad does not mention immigration reform.
FWD.us funds another subsidiary that supports Democrats "Council For American Side Of The Aisle." This subsidiary produced an ad celebrating Alaska Senator Mark Begich for advocating drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary that many environmentalists say should be left untouched. This ad also does not mention immigration reform.

(29,653 posts)and won't ever be on it. Hate the idea of people knowing what I am or am not doing. Whatever happened to mind your own business.

(9,001 posts)I use it to promote political stories, science stories, lost dog notices, and to occasionally note the weather or how my garden is doing.
If you really believe in mind your own business, stop posting on DU. It's full of people who talk about personal things. I've seen more personal business posted here than I've ever seen on Facebook.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I have all the privacy settings on max, so no one who is not a "friend" can see any personal information or anything I post, and my "friends" are limited to my kids, several real-life friends, and a handful of relatives -- less than 20 in total.
And I've come to a decision. Because the people I know on FB are able to rationalize staying despite the corporation's toxic business/political ethics, I'll keep my account open but radically curtail its use. At the same time, I'll transfer all my other activity over to Care2.
I've had an email account at Care2 almost since its inception, and it's grown since its founding in 1998 into a very progressive social site with some 22 million members now. It's time I set up a profile there and used the site more fully, as intended. Maybe a few of my FB friends will follow.
Check out the site and the founder/CEO's profile, then contrast with with ZuckerBook. Yes, Care2 has a FB page and an option for a shared sign-in with FB, but if they can live with that, so can I.
There. I feel better already.

(22,920 posts)On one hand I've wanted to learn to navigate within the community at Care2 for a while. It's so huge that I honestly don't know where to begin...lol.
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure they are selling member data, and I know they sell the data of people who simply sign their petitions to non-profit partners.
So that concerns me.
Maybe you can be my care2.com sherpa.
While I have no interest in being like Facebook whatsoever, Wishadoo! is a social network, like FB, but my hope is that people will engage about things of importance...beyond kitty pics, which are DEFINITELY important at times.
And, it's just me. I don't sell anyone's information and am not beholden to any group or business or entity.
