This tragedy occurred in Hunter Road Yallourn North - VICTORIA Australia!

Thursday, April 25th, 2013, ANZAC DAY started as a normal day for our family. We were out for the day, and had pulled over by the side of Hunter Road, not far from Quarry Road in Yallourn North, for breakfast, and to let Peppa have a toilet break.
Peppa was our eight month old pure breed Siberian husky puppy, and our 2.5 year old son Jacobs best friend.
We let Peppa out to do her business, and I was sitting on the tailgate with Jacob, putting on his shoes. I heard a car coming. It pulled up about a hundred metres away, just down the crest from us. I couldn't see them, but I could hear them clearly.
(I believe They could see us though) I started calling out for Peppa, clapping loudly. She hadn't gone far, and she would have heard me. And they definitely did also.

(19,339 posts)2. It seems from the story that they've caught the guy who shot the dog.
It's more of an awareness thing -- there isn't a lot a person can do by clicking through on those links.

I meant to mention that. In the rush to catch up on mail and posting, I skipped over it. Thanks for the clarification.

(68,644 posts)4. They have caught the killer(s) already. More:
From the article:
Police have said that this cruel senseless man, "apparently" thought Peppa was a wild dog, and claims he shot her from a distance, then dragged her out in to the open to look at his "trophy cause she was a beautiful looking "wild dog" as he put it, then put her back in the same spot.......and of coarse, claims he had his rifle in a padded bag, and ammo in a separate locked case, in a separate area, conveniently as per firearm regulations.
And then more from tomorrow's local paper, the Latrobe Valley Express:
(snip)
"He told us he believed the dog was a wild dog and he didn't see any identification marks," Sergeant Darren Eldridge said.
Ms Grant rejected this, insisting Peppa was wearing a collar and ID tags, which Jason later removed when he found her dead.
Sgt Eldridge said the man involved "expressed a lot of remorse in relation to what has occurred" and police would not pursue the matter further.
(snip)
"It's a valuable lesson dogs should remain on leads."

Sadly, I don't think there's much to be done but to shame the perpetrator, whoever they are.
