I need help regarding the Affordable Care Act and abortion...

If a girl is raped and chooses to terminate her pregnancy, is she "on her own" because this is considered "elective"? I swear to Koresh I had some man *IN* *MY* *FACE* telling me it's not.

Is this the Hyde amendment?

Is this even possible? Teh Google didn't give me much, and I don't want anyone going too far out of their way on my behalf (and this isn't a social media battle, it was a family function, so i won't be seeing him again for weeks) but if this is something someone here is familiar with, I'd certainly like to be enlightened.

Thank you!

If she has for profit insurance, it depends on the plan, although most of them have caved to the Christian antiabortion howlers and even had to be forced to offer birth control.

of their most important victories, having poor women choose between being pregnant against their will and facing a back alley abortion.

Some plans do carry abortion coverage, the ACA doesn't mandate that insurers cover it, same as always.

Call the Midwife on PBS. Episode about illegal abortion in England during the later 1950's. This episode represents why we have a woman's right to choose.

Oh, yes. This is why women went to back alley butchers. They knew if they were forced to stay pregnant, their lives were over, anyway.

I'd be a bigger fan if the lead character wasn't such a tight arse. "It's illegal!" was bullshit they couldn't afford in the East End or any other poor neighborhood at any time in history.

A nurse who had seen as much as she had would have made sure the husband had plenty of condoms right after kid #8 came along.

True stories as the series is based on her experiences. Remember ....it's the later 1950's. Roe v Wade in the US was say 1973...I know less about England's abortion history. I love the series for it is a snapshot of history.

She is actually more assertive this season. Realize that women wearing slacks were even frowned upon during this culture setting.

Uninsured people aren't covered under ACA yet, are they? Wasn't Hyde about birth control?

First there is Medicaid, which in this regard was unchanged, meaning it depends on the state. Federal medicaid dollars can be spent to provide abortions in the case of rape, but states can, and some do, refuse to provide that coverage.

Next there are the exchanges, states can, and according to the link provided above my post, some states do, ban exchanges from covering abortions. In any case, abortion coverage must be provided by a separate premium that gets no federal funding.

They'll be able to talk to her about her options in her state and probably have a way to get the "morning after pill" on the downlow for her. Even super right wing, conservative, Christian cities/areas have resources to help that can probably help her with the problem.

It would be advisable for young women to have a "savings account" just in case.. Things are getting dicey these days when it comes to abortion.. It would also be helpful to have a plan in advance, so there is less panic and more preparation.

In 1968, my college roommate got pregnant. Five 18 yr old girls and her boyfriend paid for TWO abortions...one in Oklahoma (a flop) and finally one in Nebraska (she was 5 months by then.. ..

She came back so ill and we were scared to death for her...

She married him later after graduation and they had 5 daughters & a very happy marriage..
