-- Bangladeshi authorities arrested four people, including two factory owners, after at least 340 people died in a building collapse near the capital this week. Many others were trapped under concrete rubble; nearly 600 remain missing.
The owner of the building itself remains at large. Sohel Rana, has gone into hiding, said police, who are questioning four of his relatives, including his wife, in a bid to find him.
<snip>
"It is not an accident, it is a killing incident," Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu told reporters. "All, including owners and administrative officials concerned, must be put on the dock for the killing of people."

WOW!!!
Tiny, desperately poor, 3rd-World Bangladesh,
holding the culprits accountable!
Show Us The WAY! PLEASE!
I find it especially inspiring that the "administrative officials" are ALSO being Perp Walked and held accountable.
After All, it IS the job of our "administrative officials" to keep the pirates in line and ensure that they comply with all Laws, Rules, and Regulations. It is reasonable that when violation of the regulations causes injury (Physical OR Economic), or loss of life that the "administrative officials" share the same jail cell.
If we are EVER to have ANY hope of cleaning up the mess in our own country,
we need to follow the leadership shown by the government of Bangladesh.
NOW,
about that "killing incident" in West Texas.......
*Will we see ANY Perp Walks?
*Will ANY "administrative officials" suffer the slightest inconvenience?
*Will OUR Working Class stand up and demand,
"If the workers in Bangladesh are important, We are too!"
---or are OUR lives and property not as important as that of Slave Laborer Textile Workers in Bangladesh?
If not, then we are doomed to an ever tightening Death Spiral as increasing profits are scored from the deaths, injuries, and destruction of OUR Working Class (99%).
PERP WALKS will Keep-Them-Honest.
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

(769 posts)In Bangladesh, the authorities are arresting and declared the administrations and owners to be fugitive from the laws while in America, authorities and administrations are getting the passes and the owner and board members West, Texas factory explosions are sleeping soundly and peaceful on their own beds while families suffered from their losses.
If the laws are very clear, the owner and board members would be declared the criminals and would be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the justice.
Unfortunately, the Corporatoracy America, its not. Democracy was already dead since Reagan took over the helm.

(114,904 posts)you have to be ignorant of the situation there to believe that Bangladesh deserves kudos for this. If you don't see any of the organizations on the ground that have been working for improved conditions for garment workers there, high fiving the government- and you don't there's a reason for that. And Human Rights Watch has slammed the Bangladeshi gov't for the situation as have every international organization working for improved conditions.

(39,909 posts)It is really easy to point you fingers at your neighbor and judge THEM
while ignoring the filth accumulating in your back yard from the plugged septic system.
Your attack in this thread seems "obscene and ignorant" by comparison.
Bangladesh certainly have a long way to go.
They started from a long way behind...tiny, overcrowded, impoverished,
without almost none of the advantages of us rich Westerners in a young country.
The point I'm making (that is obviously over your head) is that THEY are headed in the Right Direction.
THEY have implemented LAWS against that stuff.
THEY have a government willing to hold the criminals accountable.
THEY are willing to hold the Government Regulatory Officials tasked with Oversight accountable.
THEY are throwing the bastards IN JAIL!
THEIR criminals in their Ownership Class FEAR their government protecting their Working Class.
See the difference?
It is past time we followed their lead,
or do you oppose holding the criminals accountable?
Where are the arrests in West Texas?
cali
(114,904 posts)and it's absurd and repugnant,.
I'm not ignoring anything, pumpkin. I'm calling you on a bullshit, dishonest post.
Follow their lead? That's fucking insane. Educate yourself before blathering on. Read Human Rights Watch's reports on the garment industry in Bangladesh. Read the reports of organizations in Bangladesh. I've spent the last few days doing just that.

(39,909 posts)There you go again with the nasty, unsupported attacks.
People reading this thread are going to believe you are having a personal problem,
and aren't really interested in discussing the content at all.
Maybe you should take a little break, Peachy-Poo.
You claim that I am trying to "score dishonest political points".
If that is the case, then you should be able to support your claim by naming the politician or political party for which I am trying to score points.
That IS the definition of scoring Political Points.
So, make my day.
Name the Politician or Political Party to support your attack.
I'll help you out a little.
I'm not trying to score political points at all,
but am putting the disaster in Bangladesh a much larger WORLD Context,
one in the Free Trade Race to the Bottom is partly responsible.
My comparison to the tragedy in Texas is valid, and the situation BEGS for this comparison.
I could easily, and with the same justification,
claim that YOU don't give a crap about the suffering of the dead and injured in Texas, and are just having a Bad Hair Day.
Where are the arrests in Texas?

(115,103 posts)We did get some progress with regulatory oversight, so there is that.
We will get a reinstatement of oversight in Texas too, I'm sure. Bush rolled back a lot and Perry has done his share too. This might be enough to convince voters here to stop believing the RW lies about regulations.
