East Asia does define a broad location - Japan, the Koreas, etc.
"West Asia"? Not sure that exists, but if it did it wouldn't be Korea.
East Asia and the Mid-East are terms referenced by Europe, as a geographic location. If Europe is the center, then those places are "east" of it, to one degree or another.
East Asia
The East Indies
The Mid-East
When Columbus talked his way into an expedition, he was looking for a route to the "east Indies" - by going west. He "found" the "West Indies" instead.
