That's a simple fact, not a "castigation."

Further, there are no "DU Rules" anymore. That was DU2. This is DU3.

There are "community standards" and I'd say, by your deliberately abrasive and uncivil conduct, to say nothing of your championing one of the biggest nitwits in the GOP, you're running a bit afoul of them even as we communicate, here!

Your inability to understand that the origin and entire purpose of that dinner is to raise scholarship money for college journalism students is probably the funniest thing of all, though. Why do you think Conan O'Brien handed over his fee for the event? For his personal amusement?

Because it's the "White House" correspondents who are running the charity, the individual they cover is nice enough to show up to help boost the scholarship fund. It's a bit of noblesse oblige, if you will, and it's also an opportunity for the President to show his lighter side.

This year, the comedian (best in a long while, Conan was--ripping the shit out of the media with a smile) gave his check to the charity.

It's more than just "insider hijinks," they actually do give out a few scholarships as part of the process.

I think it "bothers" Sarah Palin...because she wasn't THERE!

No wonder her envy rises--scholarships are given to young people with futures, and bozos with sketchy pasts who have recently been "let go" from their "journalistic" (cough, choke) gig at Fauxsnooze can't even buy a seat at one of the tables!

And, insult to injury, the President of the shindig this year was a guy from....Faux! They had to have purchased a few choice tables at that soiree. Next year the presidency passes to McClatchy, so she won't have a hope in hell of getting in the door next year either, I suspect--unless she does something really, REALLY stupid in the next year, and her buffoonery earns her the "Look at the Train Wreck" designation, like Ozzie Osborn and Lindsay Lohan.

I am currently unemployed and my husband is working his ass off in an attempt to keep our family from losing our apartment. I think a good portion of the 1% has seriously fucked this country over. I have worked with Occupy and I speak up and out when possible.

However, I enjoy the WHCD. It's good for a laugh. And, to be totally superficial, I like seeing all of the pretty dresses. Sometimes, I like to take a break from wallowing in my own despair and from my hatred towards Wall Street and corrupt 1% folks. It's not always good for the soul.

The White House has all sorts of traditional festivities that could be seen as gala events by and for the 1%. Now I'm as cynical as the next person, but personally I don't begrudge them a bit of fun.

Don't get me wrong. The 1% are truly at fault for a lot of things right now, most of the people attending that dinner included. But if we want them to go around wearing sackcloth and ashes... well, I don't think we'd be better off.

My vote: Let 'em play. YMMV.

She has been front and center at other WHCD, but don't let that fact keep you from pretending that she, or you, represent the downtrodden. Her only issue with this particular dinner was that she wasn't invited to it, unlike the others.

The fact that you said that this hideous human being "speaks for you" says everything that needs to be said. And if that woman ever said anything that anyone here agreed with, that would be the first bit of proof that they were on the wrong side of whatever the issue was.

At her last (poorly attended) speaking gig, she showed up with some fake DD cups strapped on her normally flat chest.
It was pathetic. As her methed-up body ages and atrophies, her falsies keep getting bigger!
I almost feel embarrassed for her, it's so pathetic and fake...almost...
Someone really needs to do an intervention.

Moreover, she's just jealous she didn't get a ticket to sit at the FUX table or with Bill O'Liely and his buddy/seatmate Fat Tony Scalia

And finally, the biggest assembly of assclowns was, is and always will be the CPAC gathering where this year, she was one of the featured speakers.

when he gave the keynote in the presence of Bush et al., calling out the entire Washington press corps for its cowardice, making the most scathing comments about Bush, and him right there at the dias having to listen.

For that one moment alone, this entire tradition is worth while.

(Just an aside: I wonder who at the White House thought inviting Colbert that year was a bright thing to do? Did they actually fall for his pseudo-right personna?)

The dinner provides an opportunity--alas generally not taken--for speaking truth to power.

As for Palin, I doubt she puts in much work these days. Unless you count shooting your mouth off and displaying your ignorance for all to see as "work."

She's a disgusting human being who contributes absolutely nothing to society. She has zero credibility to speak up for the working class considering the closet thing she has to a job is sitting on her ass all day and spouting her moronic opinions.

I can't believe there are people here agreeing with her. She doesn't give a shit about the 99%. She just wants to promote herself, same as always. She's a useless, idiotic, selfish, revolting waste of time and that's all she ever will be.

Even when she had a "job" she rarely bothered to showed up for more than an hour or two.
People in Juneau started wearing pins that said, "Where's Sarah?"
Her hubby, "First Dude" Todd actually spent more time acting as Governor than she did!
Her almost son-in-law, Levi, said that she'd come home from the office early, get in her jammies, gather up her gossip mags, retreat to her room and turn on daytime soaps. I believe him!
He also said the kids were left to fend for themselves, do their own laundry and cook their own food.
Frequently, she send them to get take-out "Crunch Wraps Supreme" for dinner as that was one of her favorite meals.
This must be Palin's version of "working her ass off".
What a P.O.S.
