You are obviously a bitter, failed artist.

On DU, everyone is a bitter, failed artist until they get some MSM face-time... then discussions about how cool they are start to pop up here.

Every single shot in Lincoln was a variation on the dolly-zoom in Jaws, telling me what to think and how to feel. I was feeling so manipulated 90 minutes in that I quit.

...and no, I do not make films.

I think he has talent and ability but there's usually something about his films that prevent me from loving them. Often it's sentimentality, a known weakness of his. At other times I find his stuff formulaic. He also has a weakness for sentimental nationalism that I don't like. Too many of his films are stylistically and superficially bright and flashy but lack some key sense of artistic feeling.

But then that's just my 2 cents as an amateur movie buff. Feel free to hate me for my views.

are we also no longer allowed to have opinions about restaurants unless we run one?

McDonald's is popular, but it's hardly gourmet cuisine.

Similarly, Spielberg is popular, but his ideas are dull and bland.
