(611 posts)While it's heart is in the right place, it promotes a fundamental misunderstanding of our politico-economic system -- that the country can go broke. That's just not true. We have a fiat currency. The United States government can make as much money as it wants. While that might seem nitpicking, it's that very misunderstanding that politicians of both stripes, but especially the right, have been using for decades to deny essential services and necessary infrastructure. It's that misunderstanding that allows them to get away with so much. We shouldn't be feeding it, we should be tearing it down, and denying those who would use it to oppress the people.

(1,388 posts)He was a minister of the Presbyterian sect. A lot of his parishioners had a hard time with that, but he did not care. It took me quite some time to realize he was a man before his time. To him Jesus was not the only way, but he was a good way.
Hypothetically, I agree. But we must remember that the USA is not broke.
