No, it's just awful. They did that to a friend of mine's dad...twice. He had a very long, difficult to spell Serbian name. They spelled his first and last name wrong on the first one, the last name on the second. She was just a kid (13) and it just devastated her.

I'm sorry you have to go through it all again.

The alternative is to cry - and we do enough of that already.

And yes, they need to fix it!

Losing mom is what finally ended him - but he considered his own mortality with a much more sanguine attitude than he did mom's.

Hang in there. It sucks, but it does eventually scab over, at least.

My Mom's birthdate was screwed up on hers and I was devastated. We were having an "unveiling" (Jewish tradition when the stone is placed) and when the cloth came off the stone and I saw it I wanted to cry. It was the weekend so there wasn't anything I could do but Monday morning when I called the place that made it they were very apologetic and promised it would be fixed asap. They kept their promise and 3 days later they made it right. I hope you're able to get it fixed as fast as I did, good luck!

last name was misspelled as there are several common variations. Ours in not the 'common one'.

Yes, they too fixed it.

and evidently had bought the plot before they were buried in it. Instead of just selling the plot and buying another one he insisted they be moved. Well, Great-Grandpa went unmolested, but Great-Grandma's casket splintered open and she fell out right in front of her daughter. One of those stories you don't hear every day...I hope she's literally resting in peace now.

When my father passed a few years ago, the VA screwed up his tombstone. We eventually had to get Senator Lieberman's office involved to get things corrected. I know that Joe Lieberman is not very popular on this website (nor with my family; both my parents had voted for Ned Lamont) but I will always be grateful for his help in getting things fixed. I hope all works out well for your family.

you are able to have a sense of humor about this...reading the whole thread I discovered how they managed to get his last name correct (even with difficult spelling) but screwed up on something very simple.

If your dad would laugh, then so can I.

Something similar happened when my dad died. Mr Pipi called a florist to have flowers sent in our names to the funeral home, which was in Agawam, MA.

We're not talking about a town that's in another state or anything, and the florist was local, so you'd think they would know...

anyway, the driver had to call and ask where "Waggapuff", MA was.

OK, that would have made my dad laugh...

It's a common enough last name with one letter difference.

People are always trying to help us by correcting our spelling.

We've gotten used to it.

And you're exactly right: it's kinda awful and kinda funny.
