Like sand through the hourglass...

Everyday, I read articles on a number of websites, this one included. And every day, the same cast of characters says pretty much the same things, changing only a few words, and the plot changes slightly, but almost imperceptibly. The show I'm watching premiered in January of 2009, and continues, in the never-ending battle to destroy a President who is trying to accomplish things, despite a Congress that refuses to accomplish anything.

The characters speak their lines on cue, attacking a President, but ignoring the Congress. On sites like HuffPo, Commondreams, Talking Points Memo, Fire Dog Lake and many others, the same characters churn out the same stuff, changing only a little each time to suit the particular episode. The attack continues, without letting up for a moment, as if it were planned in advance, scripted by some unseen screenwriter, working away in some dark, smoky office.

I'm tired of that soap opera, but it never gets cancelled, never takes a hiatus, and appears daily. I tried changing the channel, but it's being broadcast across all networks, it seems. It's a boring show, and never seems to change. The characters never learn and grow over time. They just keep right on saying the same weary lines. They're still acting scenes that are outdated and worn, always with a dismal sense of bitterness and envy. I don't like the characters. I don't like the story line, but the only choice seems to be to turn the set off and abandon viewing at all.

So go the days of our lives.

I agree. I wish there were a section of DU called "new ideas only," a sort of problem solving area. reformist2 Apr 2013 #5

instructions. It doesn't matter. The effect is the same.

was the icing on the cake for me. What he should have done was simple: "You want the FAA re-instated? Include Meals on Wheels and Head Start as a beginning." I'm very disappointed in him and hardly even read anything about him anymore. Reach out to the left for a change, forget the right, they hate you.

since they drone on and on, nothing at all relevant to say, ever. They're like a bunch of parrots who dutifully repeat what their owners have taught them through repetition.

Just toss them a cracker and cover their cages.

There is plenty of other stuff for your viewing pleasure. Hell, it's spring. Go outside and watch what's happening in the back yard, insects waking up and getting busy, the first birds arriving to eat the insects, and new shoots of weeds popping up in the lawn, hopeful they'll escape being dug out this year.

Listening to parrots squawking their nonsense gets depressing after a while.

Many of the soap opera's I really enjoyed are done, cancelled... and yet the same drama continues...

K&R for your OP, MM.

Nice analogy.

The long night of national decline.

Social progress will only take us so far, the 99% also need economic progress or the social progress will all be for naught.
