With such a heavy police response involved how is the issue of who had what gun, when and where did they have it, and when was it last fired still in dispute?
Boston Bombing Suspects, Tzarnaev Brothers, Had One Gun During Shootout With Police: Officials
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/24/officials-boston-bombing-suspects-one-gun_n_3148609.html
"Two U.S. officials say investigators in the Boston bombings have recovered only one handgun believed to have been used in a gun battle with police...Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis...said shots were fired from the boat where Tsarnaev was found. It wasn't clear whether he was armed when he was captured."
Was the gun found by police the only gun used or was there another one not mentioned in the article?
And since police say shots were fired from the boat, yet from the time the alleged shootout from the boat occurred Tsarnaev did not leave the boat until his arrest, how could he have gotten rid of a gun to the point police have not been able to account for it (the initial gun, or a second gun?), if he did indeed have one that he used to fire shots at the police?
There are a lot of discrepancies on the issue of the guns used in both the street shootout and the boat shootout.

(3,194 posts)I remember Thursday night, how they were commenting about the gun battle with lots of weapons, bombs, grenades, etc.
Then there was that full out battle waged from the boat. And he was waging that battle with a single handgun?
Perhaps people would not jump to conclusions if the authorities are straight from the beginning. They made these 2 out to be Mick & Mallory, and though they are incredibly evil, they may not have been half the terrorists the police claimed them to be.

(108,925 posts)Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass.
Two handguns and a BB gun that the authorities believe the brothers used in an earlier shootout with officers in Watertown were also recovered, said one official briefed on the investigation. The authorities said they believe the suspects had fired roughly 80 rounds in that shootout, in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was fatally wounded, the official said.

(1,188 posts)It still seems like they should know the answer to this gun question by now. It has taken longer to get answers to the gun question than it took to identify and capture these guys.

(108,925 posts)guns were found.
Even if that was the only gun recovered, so what? The other brother had 20 hours to dump any other guns he had.

(1,188 posts)the boat. If this is true where is the gun he used from the boat? They said they had no evidence he was armed while in the boat, but he fired shots at them? With what? Read my OP again if you wish, then read the brief article and you will see the contradiction. I'm not sure why you want to argue with me for simply pointing out the discrepancy in the HuffPost article. I did not say any other guns were found. I simply questioned whether others were found and the article failed to mention it. What does not make sense is for the police to say he shot at them from the boat but, again, they have no evidence he was armed at the time.

(108,925 posts)I thought you were implying only one gun was used in total.
Apparently something spooked one of the policeman, he started shooting, and others joined in. That's my guess, anyway.
After what they had been through chasing the two brothers, it's not too surprising someone would overreact. Unfortunate, but not surprising.
I'm glad the younger brother lived. There are still a lot of open questions.

(1,188 posts)that need answers. Hopefully they will sort out the most obvious ones soon. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

(108,925 posts)No need to apologize -- everyone's still trying to figure out what happened.
