Iowa Man Says More Abortion Docs Should Be Shot

Dave Leach's comments to an inmate have been condemned by anti-abortion group.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- An anti-abortion activist's public statement that "it will be a blessing to the babies" if someone shoots the people who recently reopened a Kansas abortion clinic are being denounced as immoral and damaging to the cause.

Dave Leach posted the comments this month on YouTube. His posting includes a recorded phone conversation he had with another man Leach identifies as Scott Roeder, who is serving a life prison sentence for the 2009 shooting death of the Wichita clinic's then-owner, Dr. George Tiller.

Leach has previously suggested that other men were justified in killing other abortion providers. He notes in the video that Tiller's old clinic was recently reopened by a new abortion agency.

"If someone would shoot the new abortionists, like Scott shot George Tiller, … hardly anyone will appreciate it but the babies," he says. "It will be a blessing to the babies. Everyone else will panic. Of all places to open up a killing office, to reopen the one office in the United States more notorious for decades than any other is an act of defiance against God and the last remaining reverence for human life."

1. All that does is drive abortion underground and cause more women (and their offspring) to die.

I despise these people, I really do. As they are making it harder and harder for women to make their own choices, they are cutting the social safety net, taking away health care, cutting wages, and starving those children they want born....which makes me curious as to why they want those children born. I am afraid the answer might be to increase human misery.

Nasty, sadistic, self-righteous, hypocritcal POS.

I believe that the right to incitement to hatred and bigotry is an absolutely fundamental one.

I do not, however, believe that incitement to murder should be legal.

Probably opposes funding for education, child care, health care, school lunches, Head Start, college loans, and everything else that would improve the potential quality of life for a child who is actually born.

"It will be a blessing to the babies. Everyone else will panic." In the meantime, to hell with the poor, the sick, and the old. I am getting so tired of the freaky right in this country that it is getting depressing.

Surely one of these must apply to this situation.

Definitions of terrorism:

Merriam-Websters: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion (terror: violent or destructive acts (as bombing) committed by groups in order to intimidate a population or government into granting their demands <insurrection and revolutionary terror> )

Dictionary.com: the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.

The Department of Defense Dictionary of Military Terms defines terrorism as:

The calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological.

The FBI defines terrorism as:

The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a Government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

From Federal Patriot Act:

Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act (Pub. L. No. 107-52) expanded the definition of terrorism to cover ""domestic,"" as opposed to international, terrorism. A person engages in domestic terrorism if they do an act ""dangerous to human life"" that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping. Additionally, the acts have to occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States and if they do not, may be regarded as international terrorism.
