Boston Bombing Suspects Were Headed to NYC to "Party," Police Say

The Boston Marathon bombing suspects were heading to New York City to "party" after the attack that killed three people and injured more than 180, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says.

Kelly told reporters Wednesday that the younger brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is hospitalized and charged in the attack, has told investigators that he and older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev were en route to Manhattan Thursday night last week.

The duo is accused of shooting a police officer dead and then getting into a gunfight with police after a chase in a Boston suburb. Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev fled on foot, only to be captured hours later.

Kelly said Wednesday that investigators believe, based on interviews with the younger brother, that they weren't coming to New York City for additional attacks, and were coming to celebrate...

If they just wanted to go to NY to party, they had a much better chance of getting there by just driving, rather than shooting a cop and committing a carjacking. Now one could argue that the carjacking was just to get money to party, but then there was the stop to load up the explosives.

When you are out for a joyride, you do not generally load up explosives. They loaded into the carjacked car two more pressure cooker bombs and some pipe bombs. They planned to hit somewhere else - it may not have been NY.

Of course, maybe by "partying" the younger Tsarnaev means a large explosive detonation in some crowded location. They knew their faces were splashed all over, so this was their swansong. The evidence is that they meant to make it memorable.
