Father Of Tarpon Springs Rape Victim Calls Out Rape Culture

The investigation into the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Tarpon Springs, Florida is still ongoing — despite whatever Dude Bro says about Tarpon Springs girls lying about their sexual assaults. But the father of the Jane Doe has sent a statement to Anonymous regarding his sentiments on what exactly happened to his daughter. And daddy is calling out the prevalence of rape culture as he sees it.

The unnamed father, whose identity is most likely be concealed to protect his daughter, specifically thanks the Tarpon Springs Police Department for their work. But he wastes no time in getting straight to the heart of victim-blaming:

I would like to be clear with the public and with all the accusers that have been wrongly calling my daughter out of her name; She is not having “next day” regrets. It wasn’t until the accused admitted to her what happened, that she fully realized the horrific reality of what happened that night. And now, since it has been brought to the light, it is in the state’s hands.

Contrary to “High School rumors and gossip”, my daughter was a virgin before this incident. THIS will be her memory for her 1st time! Unfortunately, this “rape culture” has become common place in the teen & young adult community of the US. This scene plays it’s self out over and over again across this country with varying conclusions. Sometimes it never sees the light of day, sometimes it haunts the girl for the rest of her life, but sometimes, like THIS time, the girl figures it out and finds the courage to talk to someone

For those not familiar with this case, you can read about it here... It kind of got lost in the news cycle because the story broke open last week during the Boston manhunt.

Of course with things being discreet on the girl's side, the media can't exactly camp out on their door step of or tare apart the girl.

There was that other story not long ago about 3 football players raping a girl on a bus.

FL is definitely a perverse state! And the message that the girls and boys get around here doesn't sit well with me. I can only hope that the way we are raising our son would be the kind of man who would shut down any nonsense like this, or be the one who would protect a young girl from this if he had knowledge of anything weird going on at a party or what not.

The legal defense in court must attack the credibility of the accuser. It all comes down to that. And juries tend to sympathize with the victim, so defense attorneys must attack the accuser's credibility very aggressively. Far more effective than any approach in court, though, is to scare off the accuser and get the charges dropped. Thus, gossip and rumors, trashing the reputation of the victim, threatening the victim with social repercussions, or worse, becomes a big part of the accused's legal defense.

The mystery is why other people fall for this. He obviously has tremendous motive to lie, trying to stay out of jail. She has much smaller motive to make a false accusation, and considerable motive to lie by staying silent.

there came a point where i just had to stop clicking because i was getting too wrapped up in the 'anonymous' aspect. they've left few breadcrumbs but it seems they've already had an effect. the publicly targeted twitter bullies' accounts are already gone, along with whatever shameful shaming they contained. it was entirely too easy to get that far, tho'.. then i stopped.

anyhow, way to go 'anonymous' .. whoever you are this time! showing restraint and courage at the same time. classy.
