Here's what Watertown, Ma. has to say!

Watertown residents and officials react to shootout, manhunt

WATERTOWN —
Twenty-four hours after the second Boston Marathon bombing suspect was caught in an East Watertown neighborhood, ending a 15-hour man hunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Watertown residents crowded into local eateries, walked the streets and zoomed around the streets.
Riding into Watertown Square on the 71 bus, the 20 minute ride out of Harvard Square was littered with chatter about the manhunt that had the Boston suburb on lock down for Most
of Friday.

SNIP:

“I am proud to live in Watertown," he added. "Our public safety, our first responders, our public works, our citizens. We as a community deserve a lot of credit for having terrorists in our community and how we responded to that."

SNIP:

"It seemed that they did an excellent job and despite all of the bullets fired, no citizens were hurt throughout this," she said. There were no citizezns, no residents that were involved. The police and the fire that were involved were very professional."

When asked if she thinks the event will change the town, Lenk said no.

"I don't think so," she said. "I think it will make us stronger."

I imagine the "stiff upper lip now, party later" way you deal with life's struggles baffles most people. Also I think a lot of people forget that 2 of the planes that hit WTC on 9/11 were from Boston. There was no time to be frightened, only time to get the murderous bastards who blew up an 8 year old and others without a second thought.

Then dodging bullets and bombs to apprehend the perps. It happened Monday at 2:50 in the afternoon. Last suspect apprehended Friday. Damn good police work!

And yes, F-- the haters who attempt to ruin everything since Day 1.

and the same to conspiracy theorists.

I truly think all these things are going to make an 80-20 nation out of a 50-50 one.
The conspiracy theorists, the haters being the 20.

The rest of this nation the 80.

John Lennon was 100% correct. All you need is love.
(and f--- the hater that killed him for fame).

Love is all you need.

People who love, need to have louder voices. They are the silent majority.
and note-my post has nothing to do with any religion. Love is Universal.

Yes, FU to the haters.

The ones that were not here. The ones that condemn us without being here. You
were not here yet you have the compassion to understand. Others judge us, yet they do not know us. They did not feel or understand the anguish of our loss.

Did we lose our civil rights, no we did not. What we lost, what they tried to take away from us , it was our right to celebrate, a joy that dates back to 1896. It is a celebration of life and excellence. It's is our Patriots Day and no one can ever take that from us. Not ever!

I am proud of those that protected us. I am proud of Boston.

We are Boston Proud. We are Boston Strong!

My sister and her family live in the town next to where the hateperp was caught.
And she too applauded those that helped apprehend.

And she went to work last Monday in her office that overlooks the finish line because it was a quiet day and so she could watch out the window too.

Haters of all types, please, just go away. The world could be a great place in unity

And I agree with you Patriots Day is not there for conspiracy theorists to use for their cottage industry-where people make money off their hate promoting those conspiracy theories about that day.

New Yorkers and Boston share alot in common.
I attribute alot of the hate to jealousy too.

as the old Latin saying goes in English "Don't let the bastards get you down".
The last 4 plus years has shown the haters for what they are.

And btw, the other day I went in NYC to a movie at the Tribeca film Festival and did something I don't think I ever did before. There were police standing outside.
I just walked past them and said "Thank you".
Perhaps if more people started doing that, we can weed the bad ones out, and then remember why they are doing the job they are doing in the first place. (which is not to harass us, but to protect us in the face of extreme danger.) I know I over the years have forgotten that myself.
No group of workers anywhere are perfect. But getting rid of the bad ones makes more sense than hating the entire group.

Those photos said it all.
Love and Pride.

But now the death and fear that Bostonians had and their pride in overcoming this, is tainted by those who say in essence that Obama or the government did this or handled it wrong. It's callous to the people of Boston.

This is Chile, that is what a true coup and martial law looks like.

Yes, some photos looked like that, except the guys with guns were swat cops not soldiers, and it matters little when one tries to explain the difference.

The US has come close to martial law, during the 1960s fr example, at places like Watts and Detroit. And those were still emergency declarations and curfews, not martial law.

I know it matters little to the death...but the tin foil hat brigade don't want to get it.

THIS is Martial Law!

Martial law is the imposition of military rule by military authorities over designated regions on an emergency basis.
Martial law is usually imposed on a temporary basis when the civilian government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively (e.g., maintain order and security, or provide essential services), when there are extensive riots and protests, or when the disobedience of the law becomes widespread.

In most of the cases, military forces are deployed to subdue the crowds, to secure government buildings and key or sensitive locations, and to maintain order.[1] Generally, military personnel replace civil authorities and perform some or all of their functions. In full-scale martial law, the highest-ranking military officer would take over, or be installed, as the military governor or as head of the government, thus removing all power from the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government.[1]
Martial law can be used by governments to enforce their rule over the public. Such incidents may occur after a coup d'état (such as Thailand in 2006); when threatened by popular protest (China, Tiananmen Square protests of 1989); to suppress political opposition (Poland in 1981); to stabilize insurrections or perceived insurrections (Canada, The October Crisis of 1970). Martial law may be declared in cases of major natural disasters, however most countries use a different legal construct, such as a state of emergency.
Martial law has also been imposed during conflicts and in cases of occupations, where the absence of any other civil government provides for an unstable population. Examples of this form of military rule include post World War II reconstruction in Germany and Japan as well as the southern reconstruction following the U.S. Civil War.
Typically, the imposition of martial law accompanies curfews, the suspension of civil law, civil rights, habeas corpus, and the application or extension of military law or military justice to civilians. Civilians defying martial law may be subjected to military tribunal (court-martial).

This is SHELTER is PLACE!

Shelter in place (SAME code: SPW) is an emergency procedure for people affected by a chemical accident or terrorist attack. It entails taking immediate shelter in a readily accessible location, such as a small room, and sealing it from outside contaminants and shutting off all HVAC systems. Depending on the exact situation, everyone within a specific distance of the incident may be ordered to shelter in place or people within a closer range may be ordered to evacuate while everyone else shelters in place. Sheltering in place is generally only used for a short period of time.

Public authorities may call for potential victims in a hazardous situation to shelter in place, particularly in the event of a release of hazardous materials such as radiological, biological, or chemical contaminants.[1] Such releases, whether accidental or intentional, may put surrounding populations in danger and authorities may call for residents to shelter in place.[2] Chemical agents that might trigger such a response could include solids, liquids, or gases that could cause serious injury or death to people, animals, or plants.[3] In light of active shooter events, and the panic that can ensue, shelter in place is also being implemented as a response to armed events.

Shelter in place is intended as a short-term strategy for dealing with disaster. As such, recommendations from the American Red Cross and other disaster management agencies are for individuals to be prepared to shelter for a matter of hours in a safe place should such a strategy be implemented. The Red Cross suggests a number of steps to prepare for a shelter in place. They encourage those preparing to develop and be familiar with emergency procedures and shelter in place plans both at home and at their place of work or school.
These plans should include the selection of a room with access to a water supply and few or no windows, and creation of an emergency kit that includes food and water. The room chosen should have a minimum of 10 square feet (0.93 m2) of floor space per person to allow people to stay inside for at least five hours when sealed without dangerous buildup of carbon dioxide. A radio, flashlight, duct tape, and first aid supply should also be included.[1]

They are in counseling now. Did you attend one funeral, I have friends that did. Did you cry and weep with us, or only condemn us.

Ben O'Connor, 2, of Watertown, with family friend Kelley Quigley of Brighton, shares his toy with Watertown Police officer Charles Dupuis as he stands guard on Franklin Street in Watertown, Saturday, April 20, 2013.

"I think that’s it one of those things that we’re from small area, a diverse area, you can walk at night without a problem," she said. "I think you feel threatened because of the weapons that were rumored to be on him but I generally put my faith in the Watertown Police, State police. There was such a large presence."

Sullivan said she felt comforted with the show of the police prescence combing their way through her neighborhood during the scare.

"You really felt like they were on the lookout, you could really rest easy because they were looking for someone," she said. "It was more like when they were in your backyard searching or taking into consideration your block, that’s when it gets a little
consideration your block, that’s when it gets a little nervewreacking because you start thinking about your home."

My friend in New York called me back today. I called her 3 days ago because she has a son who teaches in Boston. She had quite a traumatic scare herself. He had told her on Sunday that he was going to take some of his school kids and be at the Finish Line of the Marathon. They had a place for them through the school.

When she got out of work on Monday she learned about the bombing and was Frantic.. she said in that 1/2 hour it took to get in touch with him.. that it took 10 years off her life. Turns out he was sick Monday morning and didn't even go to work. His other friends who did go were far enough away to not get hurt but they were traumatized for those who did.

To a Healing BostonStrong Forever. she!

36. I just realized
Wed Apr 24, 2013, 10:08 AM
Apr 2013

The 3 days I was not a good liberal.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, our household received a reverse 911 call advising residents to stay in their homes. An armed and dangerous man was on the loose.

When the news came on, we found out that a cop and his friend stumbled on a meth lab. We live quite rural and the lab was in the woods. The cop and his friend were 4 wheeling on their day off and noticed the distinct odor. When the cop got closer the 2 people running the lab, open fired and shot the cop. The officer was able to get back to his friend, who had already called 911. Now they had an officer wounded and a manhunt began.

We had police at every turn. School buses were not allowed into the neighborhood. When I brought my kids to school, my car was searched - they asked me to open my trunk. They stood behind my car with guns drawn then gave me the Ok to pop the trunk. That is when the fear really hit me. An armed gunman could have gotten into my trunk and I was driving with my kids in the car. Now I realize, I should have been more afraid of the police and illegal searches.
They found 1 of the wanna be cop killers on Monday afternoon. The actual shooter was still on the loose. There were helicopters, police cars and dogs all over.

Tuesday morning another reverse 911 with the warning to stay indoors. Yet again, I had to drive my kids to school. I now realize that even though the school was outside the search area, I should have been beyond angry at the police presence at the entrance. Taking the precautions that on an outside chance the gunman escaped the perimeter and gained entry to the school; I mean who did they think they were? I should have been equally pissed at the school for keeping the kids inside all day, no outside recess for them.

Before I went home, I had to do some grocery shopping. Thanksgiving was only a few days away and I was expecting to feed 20 people. Normally I would have put the kids on the bus, have a few cups of coffee, take a shower and then go shopping. But no, because of the freaking fascist pigs, I was forced to go shopping without my shower (too busy getting breakfast and lunches made) and drink a cup of coffee in the car (by the time it was done brewing it was time to leave.)

While I was at the store, my empathy kicked in and I felt sorry for the cops that have been parked at the end of my street since Sunday. I bought them some water and snacks. I now realize that I should have been cowering in my home in fear of the police and been pissed at them for searching my car whenever I left my neighborhood. Who were they to ask if they could search my car for an armed and violent felon? The gunman had already proved he was capable of trying to kill anyone who got in his way. I should have been more afraid of the cops who were trying to stop him, not thankful that they were trying to protect the residents in the area. Instead I should have insisted that they leave because their presence was violating my rights to come and go as I pleased. When I gave them the snacks they offered to search my home in case the guy broke in while I was out. I let him know my alarm was set and if the shooter had broken in, they would already know. I now know I should have cringed when he told me to have a nice day. I smiled and told him thank you and stay safe.

They finally caught the wanna be cop killer in the wee hours of Wed morning. We got a call from the school letting us know that the buses would be doing their full route. Again I had a completely inappropriate reaction. Relief, that a gunman was caught. Not anger at the police for camping out in our neighborhood. Not anger at the school for not providing transportation to and from school for my kids, that my tax dollars pay for. I should have insisted that they make the bus driver bring a busload of kids into an area where a shooter was evading police. I always imagined that the people who lived at ground zero were okay with evacuating their homes. Maybe they were good liberals and sued.

I know I wasn’t. I really didn’t need to be told to stay indoors when I found out what was going on. I wasn’t about to let my kids go outside to ride their bikes and play when they got home from school. No way, no how. We even kept the doors locked when we were home.

My kids came home from school and were bursting with energy. Wed was a ½ day and after being cooped up inside for a few days they were free to climb trees, ride their bikes on the trails, and have no homework or school for a few days. Me on the other hand had to get busy making pies.

I'm glad no one other than Tsarnaev got hurt. That was really quite an accomplishment. After hearing about their killing Collier, I fully expected that more people would get hurt before the suspect was killed himself. It is quite amazing how they got him to surrender.

they know the exact address, too! Funny, though, still no source, still no outraged homeowners or neighbors, etc. Just vague references to "spring" and "leaves" yada etc so forth for realz!

The one thing I noticed about that video was how many people of approximately the same age age were flushed out of that house. I lost count after awhile.

It is not hate at Boston. People are rightfully afraid of losing civil rights.

What happened in Boston, exigent circumstance searches, and a lock down of an area...happens all the time, just not on the "right side of town." I hate to say it, but a lot of this is latte drinking liberals that simply don't know this.

But it is not hate, it's misunderstanding.
