Our government cannot do magic tricks.

To me, that's the key difference between a healthy progressive cynicism and the Jones/Beck nuttery.

The American government at its worst has been brazen, brutish, and incompetent. But these same qualities make it seemingly impossible to, say, conjure "crisis actors" out of thin air, or make scores of black helicopters disappear.

Bush and Cheney committed massive atrocities in full view of the rest of the world, then ret-conned their motives and bullshitted the results. But THEY think Obama can snap his fingers and make literally anything happen. As I type this, some actually believe our 44th President inserted advance warnings of the Boston attacks into an old episode of Family Guy. We're skeptics; they're nuts.

had been cancelled - was not aired as planned. Was it an old episode? I'm curious about it. I'd like the link to it if you have it.

They give it a twist of lemon but it is basically a story about those in power being very much in control, holding abilities beyond the human, technologies to which we are not privy. The verbiage may indicate distrust of the government, but the story tells us that nothing happens unless 'they' create it or allow it. Like parents.
