If you don't like the US and Americans, go back to your effin' place of origin or somewhere where you'll be happy. Who the fuck are they to think America is operating on their terms. Just pack your bags and go.

In other words they were partially assimilated and probably unwilling to go home but cranky about what had happened to their people. All that seems like an excuse for a violent guy to channel his rage, once again mental health but with a geopolitical twist. Younger brother seems mindless and easily manipulated. I doubt the issue of his faith won't come up much going forward. I find it strange to think of how the parents will behave when they get back to the US. I think they are here already.

so maybe the kids started off secular and then watched some wacko videos on extreme Islam as they smoked their brains into mush.

You do have a good point, not what I would expect for an extremist to be making his main form of cash. I personally think something happened to him in Russia and the FBI just could not pin him down long enough to hold him for anything.

The younger brother, dunno I hope we get to hear something from him one day - namely some answers as to why.

The older brother probably smoked as well. But after his "conversion", it would appear that he stopped and probably objected to his younger brother's smoking. He may have killed Brendan Mess, either for not stopping dealing to younger brother, or as a proof of his alligence to an Islamic cell.

have any source (I'm stuck downstairs in my home), I've read that there is a connection between the words "hashish" and "assasin." Also, an associate who lived for decades in the India-Pakistan-Afghanistan region told me of a group of dangerous men in that area who indeed smoked hash to calm and focus their minds, in preparation for missions. (Odd, that. Not my impression of the stuff.)

People have paid for violence and wars for a long, long time, by selling various drugs. Likewise, flooding a population with relatively cheap, available substances has long been a tactic of control. For the powers-that-be have always found it much easier to deal with a merry band of fools, than a single intelligent, sober, unhappy person.

Just my opinion, but I don't think it's surprising. Marijuana is a substance that can be used for good, or abused for bad.
