Ran across this article, and I thought more would be interested.
Maybe the Electric Cars of the future can run more then 90 miles
between charges and we could actually take family vacations in them.

(8,907 posts)But I don't know the electrical specs.
What is the distance the Tesla can travel on 1 charge?
And how long does it take to charge?
LA to LV is under 300 miles.
My opinion is that an electric car to make it family travel useful
needs to travel between 200-400 miles and should recharge
within 10 min. (About how long it would take to gas up a car).
I'm willing to live with 60 minutes, because then we could stop
and have a meal or have a quick look at local sites.
Thanks

(16,646 posts)Hope they figure out how to prevent them from exploding through a self short. Power and speed is dangerous. Think about the difference between coal, and coal dust. They've just invented electronic "coal dust".

(8,377 posts)have considered to be the theoretical maximum energy density of Li-Ion.
But to be blunt, we get one of these absurdly hyperbolic claims almost every week now, and none of them have proven out to be true. And recently, the hype factories seem to be centered in what used to be considered respectable universities.
I think we need to take a hard look at what is happening in these so-called not-for-profit universities. They all seem to be run by commercial interests now. It is one thing to drive a university away from basic research to become (practically speaking) the development department for for-profit corporations. That has its own set of objections, considering that the public is often paying for this work. UI-Urbana is a state-supported school, I believe. And to be clear, I don't know whether they are turning this work over to a for-profit corporation.
It is another thing entirely for the universities to engage in marketing hype that would put the worst pump-and-dumpers to shame.
So I am a skeptic. I hope I am completely wrong about this because such breakthrough that seeming defies the laws of physics would be transformational for society in a very good way.

Until it actually is on the market, these are non-stories.
