(21,020 posts)water tastes these days, that's probably not far from the truth.
We get well water at my house. No industrial waste, fed by underground springs and rain, filtered by 100+ feet of rock.
Tastes good except it gets a bit skunky when there's a dry spell.

(1,370 posts)Is there a belief that water pollution is getting worse?
If so, is it backed up by data?
I'm a civil engineer, and I've worked on alot of sewer improvement projects with either grant money or no interest loans, in order to get small towns into compliance.
I also deal with the 1973 Clean Water Act on a daily basis, as its implementation gets stronger every year - actually each state has to renew its permit with the federal government every 5 years...and the enforcement level is tightened up each time.
I also know that the EPA is skipping state enforcement and going straight to mid-sized cities to enforce water quality standards. As an example, if my city's fire department uses a large amount of chlorinated waer to fight a fire, that is a reportable event to the EPA...and they even has to inspect downstream for a fish kill.
So I guess what I'm asking is - what the heck are you talking about? Is freshwater really the most pressing item of the day?
BTW - in areas where freshwater is a concern, the outhouses shown generally aren't the problem. Its a quantity issue due to overuse, but not because its polluted.
