During a legislative discussion our Dem legislator heard this piece of nonsense from a female GOP legislator. Well, I was discriminated on the job so I quit and found another one. So if you are discriminated against you can just leave and go somewhere else. You don't have to put up with it. You can eliminate it by moving on.
THAT LOGIC IS THE GOP LOGIC IN THIS COUNTRY. AND EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS IN A PRIVATE MEETING, IT IS ENDEMIC IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. Discrimination is NOT a problem to them because even if it exists a person can go to a place they do not face discrimination.
By that logic the GOP believes that:
If you don't like your reproductive choices go to a state or country where you have more choices.
If you are discriminated on the job or make too little to live on go find another job or get another one where you are NOt discriminated by being a minority, homosexual etc/
If you get sick and can't get health care go to where you can get health care.
And it goes on and on and on. And we think we can debate with these assholes.

(11,804 posts)It's an interesting theory; basically Republicans/Libertarians feel that economic actors will punish bad companies and reward good companies. If you choose to run your company in a regressive lousy way, you won't be able to hold onto good people, and will be defeated in the market by people who run their companies in a progressive good way.
In a sense its true; I've certainly seen companies that have lousy HR policies watch their talented people walk out the door, while the people who are just in it for the money stick around.
The problem is that the economic consequences aren't usually that apparent that quickly and most US companies don't look much past the current quarter. So if you wait for companies to evolve, its a long wait (and a lot of misery for those stuck in those companies).

(369 posts)people do leave companies with bad policies. Head hunters circle companies like vultures picking off the best and brightest to leave and go elsewhere. There is always room at another company for talent with experience. Ever wonder why a stupid manager made it to the top, all the bright ones left.
