Cal State University Chancellor Timothy P. White plans to implement a system-wide smoking ban, which would prohibit smoking throughout the 23-campus system by the end of 2013.

(149,296 posts)It is a bold move against tobacco use, which is still pretty widespread among college age people, I believe.
Maybe a few vulnerable young people will not start smoking, and will enjoy healthier lives.

You make an excellent point. People who have not started smoking will be less likely to start at a campus where smoking is prohibited. It's also probable that people who are trying to quit will be encouraged by the new policy. It's pretty much a win/win proposition.

I'm looking forward to not having to hold my breath as I walk by one of the many choke points (pun intended) on the CSULB campus.
