Arizona senator told mother of theater shooting victim that he supported gun background checks, then voted against them

Sen. Jeff Flake sent a handwritten note to Caren Teves, whose son died during the theater shooting massacre in Aurora, Colo. In it, he said he was 'truly sorry' for the loss of her son and that 'strengthening background checks is something we agree on.' But then he voted against the bill.

One of the U.S. senators who voted against gun control legislation Wednesday lied to a heartbroken mother whose son was killed in the Aurora, Colo., movie massacre, she says.

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake sent Caren Teves a handwritten note last week saying he was “truly sorry” for the loss of her son and that “strengthening background checks is something we agree on.”

Then, just days later, he helped kill a bill that would do just that.

“My husband and I invited him to our home to sit in our son’s chair, his empty chair ... feel the emptiness and have dinner with us and discuss this,” she said. Flake initially responded with a form letter but later followed up with a note.

“I am truly sorry for your deep loss,” the letter states. “... While we may not agree on every solution, strengthening background checks is something we agree on.”

Flake is an ass. I'd call him an embarrassment to the state of Arizona, but it's Arizona. We have a lot of embarrassing asses here. He blends.

Say what ya gotta say to get the vote. Develop amnesia later.
