(17,111 posts)They will never vote for a Democrat.
However, independents and some GOP members will vote for C-B. if they don't vote, that's good too.
One worry is our voting machines. They are some of the worst and can be monkeyed with.
Another point to remember is the fact that a lot of GOPeas and GOPea leaders are fed up with Sanford. If he wins, he will be a stupid pain in their ass for a long time. They may intentionally not vote and cede the seat for 2 years. It is a heavily R district and it might be worth it to them to get rid of Marky.

(2,479 posts)From article:
". . . it's interesting to note that there is some backlash against Republicans over last week's vote on background checks. 86% of voters in the district say they support them to only 12% opposed, and 45% of voters say the GOP's opposition to them makes it less likely they'll support the party in the next election compared to only 21% who consider it a positive. That anger over the gun vote comes despite Barack Obama having only a 41% approval rating in the district with 51% of voters disapproving of him.

(16,254 posts)20-28% approve. I can't recall seeing a percentage below 20%.

(2,479 posts)That 21% are most likely pretty much all fixated repub voters, so nothing was gained by those pro-NRA votes and a lost was lost.
It will be most ironic when the cowardly votes of those repubs that killed expanded background checks come back to get them kicked out of office in 2014!

(94,483 posts)"One final note on the South Carolina numbers- while Mark Sanford's poll numbers with Republicans have improved since the last time we looked at this race, Jenny Sanford's have gone in the other direction. What was a 57/15 favorability rating for her with Republicans is now 47/27, suggesting that a lot of GOP voters are holding the trespassing allegations against her instead of her ex-husband."

(346 posts)And I can tell you absolutely, that there is a renewed Democratic vigor in this area. We are looking at a Democratic Representative for the first time in many decades, and I am literally jumping for joy. The Rethugs that I know are remaining tight-lipped, stoic, and are biting their lips until they bleed, these days. This is possibly the only thing that could be worse for them than having to watch a black family residing in the White House. Most here don't even try to hide their racism and bigotry. They believe in anything that will help to ruin the legacy of the "Tiger Woods" guy who is our President. All they can talk about are foolish things like his daughter's trips, his wife's extravagant spending, how much golf he plays, and the fact that the economy still is floundering. I have to admit that I am surrounded by racist pigs, absent of intelligence, and full of parroted bullsheet. I can't wait until the special election so that I can strut my stuff down main street and thumb my nose at all of the right-wing sheeple. I surely do hope that the polling data holds, or even gets better.........we all know that Skankfurd is a crook, and it is well within his criminal background to steal an election.

(5,165 posts)calling out Mark Sanford for his derelict on of duty to wife and SC public may have had some effect as well.
It can be found on Buzzfeed.com or Google.
