RT interview: Assange expresses concerns about UK embassy surveillance costs

... Assange believes his being trapped in the Ecuadorian Embassy is the result of the UK’s unwillingness to offend the US ...

JA: It’s a fascinating situation that the Australian electoral code permits an imprisoned Australian overseas to run for the Australian Senate ... The United Kingdom so far admits to spending over $4.5 million just on the police surveillance around this embassy alone in the past 10 months. Utterly absurd. as "imprisoned" in the embassy, for example, when he voluntarily jumped bail to go there (thus costing his friends hundreds of thousands of pounds in bail and sureties), asked for permission from the Ecxuadorians to stay there, and could leave there at any time

Similarly, it is most odd of him to describe the fact, that the UK would honor UK court decisions to extradite him to Sweden following a Swedish request based on intended prosecution on allegations of sexual crimes in Sweden, as evidence the UK feels it cannot offend the US
