Fundy parents let their kid die, now a second kid has died.

A couple that was sentenced to probation after their 2-year-old died in 2009 from pneumonia have had another child die.

Herbert and Catherine Schaible, fundamentalist Christians who believe in the power of prayer ahead of modern medicine, recently had their 8-month-old son die, according to Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Jillian Russell.

I have 2 minds for this. I don't worry when an adult decides not to get simple care, but it is always more difficult when it is a child.

the parents find out they don't have complete ownership of a child because the state will step in and order lifesaving care.

I'm sorry these people are religiously bonkers, but they need to be prevented from killing their kids because of it. They can pray their own cancer away, grownups with all the facts can consent to be pigheaded and stupid.

Kids are different. The state has a compelling interest in having them grow up. When a parent's religion threatens his or her kid's life, court orders will follow.

But that's only if someone has the courage to let the state know about it.

The greatest indicators of what kind of person a child will become are their parents.

9. So, I wonder if they're anti-abortion because they believe that abortion is murder?

People have their kids taken away due to not meeting their medical needs. People need to be able to practice their religions, so long as they can do it without harming their children. That just isn't OK. People aren't allowed to mutilate the genitals of baby girls in this country regardless of their religious beliefs. People shouldn't be able to watch their children die either. If you want to try praying away your own pneumonia, fine. But the kid gets some medical treatment.

I know it's tricky. I know people who don't believe in vaccines and I do think they should be able to make those medical decisions. But that isn't a case of a child being immediately in danger without medical intervention. I think there's room for parents to make decisions because they've made a different risk assessment, but to refuse medical treatment when doing so has a high potential of causing death or serious permanent harm, is just plain wrong.

Call me culturally insensitive or whatever. I'm OK with that.

Since they love killing children, why not just abort and at least save the wife's figure? I mean, not like they were SERIOUS about keeping them anyway...
