Who tries to kill themselves by shooting themselves in the throat?

When I first saw the grainy pictures of Suspect #2, it looked like he had blood on his face and the early reports were that he was "severely injured," and unable to speak. That led me to theorize that he had been shot in the jaw or face during the previous night's firefight. Now, the media are reporting that the wound is consistent with a close-range self-inflicted gun shot.

Does that strike anyone else as strange?

Also not clear when he shot himself and with what (its harder to do with a rifle).

Its clear he has a throat wound. When the rest of the details come out, lets see if they pass the smell test then.

And if his hands are intact, he can still write his thoughts i.e. he can still provide testimony.

to commit suicide. The bullet's supposed to angle up into the brain.

The effective method is how Ernest Hemingway did it: Suck on a double-barrelled shotgun, pointed up and back.

You want to take out the entire brain stem at once.

I haven't heard that. The cops never denied getting into massive shootouts with the guy, and his brother before his death.

The bullet wound to the neck, which has an exit wound in the back of the 19-year-old’s neck, “is very possibly a suicide attempt,” said Miller, a former assistant director at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Dunno if that's accurate or if it's hearsay or dated info. Or the writer may have just garbled the language.

He was probably pretty shaky.

I think we won't know all the details of this entire episode for quite a while. Media reporting has been less then accurate.

It's easy to see how you might fuck it up with such a weapon, since it's not a "put it to your head" sort of procedure, so much as a "What is your major malfunction, Private Pyle" sorta thing. In a weakened state, laying down, trying to reach that trigger and pull it backwards, as it were. Yeah, you can see how that would have failed.

Along with determining that the suspects had made at least five pipe bombs, the authorities recovered four firearms that they believe the suspects used, according to a law enforcement official. The authorities found an M-4 carbine rifle — a weapon similar to ones used by American forces in Afghanistan — on the boat where the younger suspect was found Friday night in Watertown, Mass., 10 miles west of Boston.

Gunner shitheads on their gunner shithead forums (friends?) are of course denying it, because NY Times gun grabbers blah blah, or whatever. So I guess we'll see when the latest gunner smoke clears.
