Boehner On Suspected Bomber’s Miranda Rights: ‘Get The Information Now’

SAHIL KAPUR 9:33 AM EDT, MONDAY APRIL 22, 2013

Appearing Monday morning on Fox News, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) weighed in on whether or not suspected Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev should be read his Miranda rights prior to being interrogated.

"There's a treasure trove of information. And key here is be able to get to it. So whether you want to call him an enemy combatant or you want to use this public safety exception, the key is getting the information," Boehner said. "To protect the American people, to learn whether others were involved, to learn more about how he got involved."

The Obama administration has decided to invoke an exemption to Miranda rights that permits the FBI to question a suspect when they believe information he provides can help stop an imminent attack or can be valuable intelligence.

Asked if he's okay with Tsarnaev not being read his Miranda rights, Boehner said, "I am. At this point I think it is perfectly fine. I don't think it matters under what exception. You can always mirandize this individual but, the important thing is to get the information now."
