Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett dies

Updated 20 minutes ago

Australian rock legend Chrissy Amphlett, best known as the singer of the Divinyls, has died age 53.

Media reports say she was surrounded by family and friends at her New York home when she died.

Amphlett, who grew up in Geelong, Victoria, lived in New York with her husband, former Divinyls drummer Charley Drayton.

The cause of her death is not yet clear. In 2010 she revealed she had breast cancer but in early 2011 she said she was in remission. In 2007 the charismatic frontwoman also revealed a battle against multiple sclerosis.

The list of people in music who die every year would take too many pages and that is something we should all be ashamed of .

I grew up with the Divinyls. I always thought she was older than that, but 53 is too young to die

And 'I Touch Myself' was by far one of their worst songs. Here's a better one...

I like the record they released in the USA in the 1980s. I have it on cassette tape, but also bought the CD. I have a DJ demo phonograph record from their previous record too. I saw her at a concert at an amusement park in Rhode Island in '89 or '90. I always thought that band was really under-rate.

...from that era.

Dammit.

Why do artists seem to go much earlier than toxic politicians?

little piece of dumb trivia-
Randy Jackson (the Idol host), was the bass player on I touch Myself.

Science Fiction was a great song, along with Touch and the others.
Saw them in concert when they first came over.
