Pictures from the scene- Boston dot com

Not for the squeamish or those who faint at the sight of blood, these photo journalists did what they do best. Personally, I don't know how they kept their head to document the scene immediately after the explosion, I likely would have forgotten I even had a camera:

Boston.com, which bills itself as "The Big Picture- The News in Photographs", is a great source for current events in a format that augments lengthy news articles. As they say about a photo: "...worth a thousand words".

I guess just the shockwave ripped the clothes? I can't imagine he would have been hit by shrapnel/nails and not be bloodied.

That is what a lot of photogs do at emergency scenes.

It sucks later since you can have a full card (I carry two 16 gig cards) and then some.

Realize at times, modern cameras allow for it, you are doing your job and scanning your surroundings for further danger.

I have to be honest with myself and question whether I'd even still be at the scene after the first blast. These images weren't taken by seasoned combat photographers, they were there to cover the finish line.

It's incredible the images are so well done considering the chaos surrounding the photog.

On edit:
I imagine since a finish line is so dynamic, they probably already were set to burst.

And many of those photogs are seasoned combat photographers.

My husband and I cover local events. While in the Navy he was, among other things, a combat photographer.

I was under fire a few times as well..

What I would have to fight, and I fear not successfully, would be the need to go into paramedic mode. I have added a first aid kit to my work back pack.

There are over 30 images all together. The last being a woman praying.
