Second Child Death for Convicted Faith-Healing Couple

A couple that was sentenced to probation after their 2-year-old died in 2009 from pneumonia have had another child die.

Herbert and Catherine Schaible, fundamentalist Christians who believe in the power of prayer ahead of modern medicine, recently had their 8-month-old son die, according to Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Jillian Russell.

It wasn’t clear when the child died, or the cause of death, but the death hasn't been ruled suspicious, Russell said.

The child was taken to a funeral home by an as yet unknown individual and the undertaker alerted police, Russell said.

I'm not one to want to put kids in foster care. In this case, though, I think we only need to go for "two strikes" and you're out. The remaining five kids need to be removed from these parents. Yes, I am assuming this child also died because of preventable reasons. There needs to be an autopsy.

"The child was taken to a funeral home by an as yet unknown individual and the undertaker alerted police, Russell said." I don't think I'm going to be wrong to assume this means the deceased child was not transferred from a hospital or other critical care facility. This would seem to violate the conditions of their parole: "As part of their sentence, the Schaibles were required to arrange medical examinations for each of their children, to immediately consult with a doctor when a child became sick and to follow the doctor’s treatment recommendations."

daughter and son-in-law, aren't that far gone. In six years since I've known them, they could have lost at least three of their five, soon to be six children. I'd say for sure two of them are alive because and only because of government run health care. I'd like to really rub their noses in that. Not to mention every one of the births being covered courtesy of us taxpayers.

We wouldn't stand for it even if they were total wackjobs. My girlfriend would force them to take the kid to the hospital at gunpoint if she had to, I shit you not.
