Case 1 :

A 5 Year Old Girl Was Raped In Capital Of India - New Delhi - Police offered $37 to keep quiet!!!!!!

He said a bottle almost eight inches long and pieces of candle had been inserted “into her private parts.”

"Parents of the 5-year-old said that the police had failed to take their complaint seriously, failed to carry out an adequate search and then offered them 2,000 rupees — about $37 — if they would keep quiet about the case. Then on Friday, television news channels showed a large mustachioed police officer slapping a small female protester in the face."


“This is the first time I have seen such barbarism,” R. K. Bansal, medical superintendent of Swami Dayanand Hospital, said Friday in a televised interview. “There were injuries on her lips, cheeks, arms and anus area. Her neck had bruise marks suggesting that attempts were made to strangle her.”

The rape accused Manoj, who is in police custody, had also raped his wife before marriage. The village panchayat had then ordered Manoj to marry the girl.

village panchayat means local self govt at village level.

My heart aches for this poor little girl. What HELL she must've gone through!! Seems that not too many people care. People are so outraged over background checks, or giving up their large clips, but little children getting raped, beaten, strangled, etc., and most people are silent. Even though this took place in a foreign country, we should all be outraged; it happens here too!!!

Wish there was some way to stop these monsters!

... because it is gratifying to see that people seem... well, pretty darned pissed off about this. Damn right, too.

Don't be ashamed just because you're from the same country, for goodness' sake, and I say this as an American who certainly didn't want to be represented by the presidency of George Bush. I've been to India and loved loved loved it. It is a beautiful, complex, amazing country. The people there are so hospitable and friendly, despite the fact that there are a few bad apples in any country. India and the overwhelming percentage of the Indian people are absolutely, heart-warmingly wonderful.

I doubt that this is some new epidemic. Rather people have become emboldened to speak out against the culture that renders them mute against charges of shame. It may be evidence of a significant change in the way Indians approach sexual crimes.
