Others were absolutely POSITIVE they were WHITE AMERICANS because of something they could smell and literally demanded that every group of WHITE AMERICANS they didn't like have their homes and belongings checked regardless of their Fourth Amendment rights.

The speculation was that the bombers were Tea Party members, or possibly fundamentalist Christians striking out in xenophobic rage at the possibility of immigration reform, and would be protected by White Privilege after it was found out they were WHITE AMERICANS.

But, as soon as it turns out the bombers AREN'T WHITE AMERICANS, the call goes out to leave nationality, ethnicity, and religion out of the discussion.

Pretty much par for the course.

and unlike the people on DU who were speculating about what they were there ARE people now who want to treat entire groups of people differently.

nobody on DU has called for doing that to others.

maybe they were praying the perpetrators were white Americans so we wouldn't feel the need to start another stupid war somewhere on the other side of the planet.

Just a thought.

I will admit I hoped beyond hope that the perpetrators were white Christian Americans.

My 31 year old and 19 year old are agnostics (atheists?) and my 17 year old is most likely a deist. They are American children (born in the USA to a mother whose ancestors immigrated to this continent in the 1700s) .... however ....

1/2 of their ancestry traces back to the Indian sub-continent (current Afghan/Pakistan region) and their father happens to be Muslim. My daughter (middle child) has a very "ethnic" name (the boys have names from the Judeo-Christian tradition).

To a great many nit-wits my children are "Muslims" .... these imbeciles look at them with suspicion and distrust.

Every time some psycho (out of billions of Muslims) commits a heinous act in the name of Islam ... I fear for the safety and well being of my children (at the hands of bigoted morons)....

So, you are damned right ... i did "pray" it was a deranged homegrown white guy Christian ... the repercussions to innocent groups of people in the US is not ramped up when that is the case.

I also thought they were Americans. I think the OP makes a good point about the Islamic mania that exists in this country as well as the racist nature of some people.

They've stopped talks on the immigration bill dead.

Nothing they value more than a fear / horror based excuse for whatever nonsense they have in mind.

And other people who commit murder sometimes do have something in common.

(People who kill abortion doctors are almost always christian fundamentalists...would you ignore that?)

And some think their religion wants them to kill non-believers.

to do that...unfortunately, there are some here who can't seem to leave race, ethnicity, etc. out of very much.

Each time I hear about some brutality or another being inflicted on a minority...e.g. the police beating up a black suspect, I hope and pray that the police are also black.

Why?

Because if they're white, I just know I'm going to see the usual cries of "RACISM!!!!" on DU. White cops targeting a black person. Maybe someone has video proving how the cops brutally subdued the suspect, except it doesn't show the minutes or seconds before where the suspect was acting in a totally threatening manner.

Or there's an article telling a one-sided version of what happened and people form an opinion based on anti-cop bias.

That's all bad enough if it's white on white violence. When it's black on white, that's when the "racism" card gets played.

And there's too much of that going on. Too much finger-pointing and labeling of people as "racists", which makes me wonder if perhaps there might be a bit of psychological projection going on.

Seeing negative things in others that one doesn't want to admit exist in oneself.

And it's a pretty tricky head game, really. Accuse someone of being a racist, and if the person says "I am not a racist", then that's proof he is.

How about if it's turned around on the person making the accusation? Would he also reply that he's not a racist because he's got all these black friends, blah blah blah?

How rich is that?

Maybe next time someone accuses me of being an "ist" of some kind, I'll turn it around and tell that person that he's likely pointing a finger to take the focus off his own negative thoughts/beliefs.
