Some heartening information about the Muslim woman who was attacked near Boston

<snip>

What happened next made her feel better about Malden, a fast-changing city of 60,000 that now has the second-highest percentage of immigrants in Massachusetts.

She called the Malden police, at her husband’s urging, and as she waited for them to arrive, workers at the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, where the play group was, came outside to protect the women.

The police arrived within minutes, soothed her and took her statement. Then the calls came: Mayor Gary Christenson called her at home, then Police Chief Kevin Molis phoned.

“They were there within two minutes. They were so kind. They were so helpful,” she said. “The Malden police chief – he called me two times.”

then we have very little hope for the future. This should be 'being our everyday self.' If we allow a handful of violent people, as well as a deeply messed up presidential administration (yes, the last one) convince us that an entire religion, replete with as many schisms as Christianity, perhaps more, is somehow out to get us, then we aren't worthy of the faith that the Constitution places in us.

with what you wrote. I wrote rather too quickly from a place of pent-up disgust at how pathetic and rotten such behavior is (attacking members of other religious or ethnic groups). I just don't understand it and probably never will.

One of my good college friends is a Dem State Senator out of Malden and a strong backer of civil rights. I am sure she will be backing her as well.

As far as I know, law enforcement has never refused to come to the aid and take a report or respond to a possible muslim (but definite foreigner) who had been assaulted.

And for so many today, on-line life is all consuming. Especially when you feel you are isolated.

Sleepless, regarding Pat "In the Grave".

Don't think that eventuality is really necessary in the short term, but will be welcome when it arrives

Personally, I'd prefer that he instead simply shut up in the meanwhile. Being in his grave can wait for natural circumstances to take place

The summation of these comments is really encouraging, we Sectarians (I'm Agnostic, actually) have long since recognized that Fundamentalism is dangerous wherever it resides, Pat R. being a prime example.

Especially regarding Muslim intolerance, a situation largely brought about by 9-11, exploited by the Right WingNuts ever since.

All of that aside, notice that you seem to be sleepless in CA, where I'm currently not sleeping either. Nice place to be sleepless, good for us!

Unless his intention is to outlive everyone, he's not long for this world. And why would he want to be here with all these people of different faiths when he can be up there in Heaven?

What a horrible thing to go through. Boston is really hitting some high notes in the handling of all this.

I've never been, I think I'd like to see the city. Who was it that said if you want "antiquity" in America, aside from Native cultures, Boston is where it's at. I want to say Neil Gaimen.
