A HERETIC I AM

With all that's gone down this week, perhaps it's time for a few laughs. Remember Jack Soo?

In light of all the police action we have all witnessed in the last few days, I thought maybe it would be a good idea to have a bit of a chuckle.

Jack Soo died on January 11, 1979. He played many parts through his career but he is probably best known for his hilarious role as Sargent Nick Yemana, of the 12th Precinct on the 70's sitcom "Barney Miller".

Here's a retrospective of his time playing Sgt Yemana.

Take 23 minutes and reminisce

Part one;

Part two;

Part 3;

RIP Jack. From someone who watched you in your best days, I miss you.

Edited to add this; I truly, TRULY, LOVED this show. I watched it religiously every week. It was one of the few sitcoms that could be called, as was once said, "Televised Theater". Like "All In the Family", almost every single scene was shot on the same set. The writing was terrific and the humor was .....well....funny! It was a great escape on a Thursday (it was Thursday, wasn't it?) night.

Edited again to add the pic of Jack.

when we only had 6 or 10 TV channels, Mom and Dad would always watch the musicals when they were on the networks: "South Pacific", West Side Story", Sound of Music", "Oklahoma!" etc.

I remember seeing "Flower Drum Song" so many years ago, but I must say, it was a real pleasure watching the scene you put up.

Thanks!

I was exposed to some pretty decent stuff as a kid. And some awful stuff, like BJ And The Bear. But I try to forget that.

It mainly was about another new series debuting-- Hot L Baltimore, which was getting a lot of press for being risque and cutting edge. The review was a mild endorsement and ended with something along the lines of "by the way, also premiering on ABC is a much better sitcom by the name of Barney Miller."
Hot L Baltimore died after 13 episodes. Barney Miller went on for several years.

Over hyped, underwritten, but well acted, if I remember correctly.

It starred Conchata Farrell (Berta of "Two and a half Men&quot and James Cromwell, among others.

Funny premise, just underdone.

I had to watch it in reruns, because when it was on live, my family was overseas. What a funny show that was.

During a time of action flicks it reminded us that there are cops even in the Big Apple who spend their entire careers never pulling their guns.

Thanks for posting them.

I loved this show (and M*A*S*H, All in the Family, etc.). They just don't make them like they used to. I feel kind of sorry for people who watch some of the crap on TV now, who never experienced these old shows. I pretty much gave up on most of TV in the late 90s. I think when I saw a show about a contest between midgets and elephants pulling an airplane, I knew TV was on a down hill slide.
