When religion breaks bad

Throughout history, religion has been involved in or the cause of millions of deaths in the name of God.
From the crusades forward, religion has played a part in many wars and battles against unseen enemies.

The attacks of September 11th, 2001 were tied to radical Islamists that looked at the US as the "Great Satan" and the primary reason for the immorality in the world. God wanted them to kill the Great Satan. It was a religious calling.

The Marathon Bombers were no different. At least one of the bombers was a religious fanatic. His mind was warped by religious fundamentalism. No doubt, he had a great influence over his younger brother and led him to take the fanatical path also.

The truth is that there is no God in any religion that wants anyone to kill children and innocents in his name. It simply is not there in any religion. It is only the distortion of religion that leads people to believe such tripe. That is the battle that humanity must fight.

from the existence or non-existence of any deities. That is what I believe, anyhow. Deities are needed to add that finishing touch to some human societal beliefs, I guess. Beyond that, they don't seem to appear anywhere, really.

Humankind has created deities in its own image, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
