Does anyone know why they shot Sean Collier, the MIT police officer?

Also - how did MBTA officer Richard Donohue end up getting shot? I guess the real question is, how did the shot-out start? Did the brothers start it by shooting a random officer in uniform?

What I was wondering was, did Sean Collier confront them for some reason, or did they see a uniform, panic and start shooting?

Did the other shoot-out begin when officers spotted the pair, or did they once again panic and start shooting?

3. Speculation is that he was on his phone and they wrongly assumed it meant he had spotted them and

was calling in to report. They might not have had a clue that cops use radios and not cell phones for communications or they were so scared they just weren't thinking clearly.

He was blindsided apparently.
