tarp instead of first calling the police to say he saw blood by a boat which BTW would clearly be a great hiding place? What if Dzohar shot him and then escaped? What don't people understand about "armed and dangerous"?

(28,581 posts)she saw the top was ripped and there was blood on the side, so she called the cops.

(25,467 posts)Probably CNN. Yet another thing the knee-jerk media got wrong.

(1,956 posts)Regardless, peeking under the tarp was clearly foolhardy, and he's lucky he didn't end up with a face full of bullet.

(2,380 posts)just noticed the blood. thermal imaging from helicopters then determined that there was someone in there. The boat was outside of the search area, too.

(146,286 posts)I'd have seen the blood or the tear, or whatever, and called the police based on that. I would not have looked under the boat cover at all. That does seem a bit foolish to me, given what was going on that day.

Sitting in my living room a thousand mile away a day later -- sure it seems like a foolish move. Hopefully, it would've seemed that way to me at the time as well.
But, none of us were there. None of us were in that situation. From what I read, he thought it was an animal.
I'm not about to call someone I don't know who went through something I can't possibly fully appreciate "a bloody fool."
I'm just glad it turned out the way it did.

(25,171 posts)At first I heard that a women saw blood in her yard and called the police. Then I heard that a man had seen blood on the tarp and went to investigate. He lifted the tarp and saw him lying in the boat. Then I saw someone being interviewed on teevee. He said went into the yard and something looked amiss with the tarp on the boat and he went to fix it. He discovered Jahar while fixing the tarp and then called the police.

(19,877 posts)saw a tear in the plastic sheathing on his boat, looked inside and saw a bloody mess, called 911.

(4,178 posts)the house owner drew back the tarp and saw the person. I know they are often wrong.
Thank God the person lived to call the police.
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts)Under those circumstances (manhunt, crazed bomber shooter on the loose), could you have pulled back the tarp.
I am glad the guy is OK.

(14,061 posts)If I walk out of my house and see blood on my boat and the winterizing wrap torn up (which is, I assume, how it looked), I would run -- not walk -- to the nearest phone and call the law.
But that's just me.
treestar
(82,383 posts)Even in ordinary circumstances.
If I lived in an area under lock down for the past 24 hours due to a still at-large terror suspect, I would call 911 right away. Like 2 seconds faster.

(16,950 posts)Something looked wrong with the tarp, and he went to look and saw the loose rope had been cut. Not worn or frayed but cut. Then he looked under and saw the blood and called the police. I forgot in the report if they said he actually saw the suspect or just saw the blood.
I was thinking the same thing as your OP. Kind of risky to look under the tarp. The guy could have shot him in the face. Why bother with the tarp! That's what the entire police force out looking for him is for at that point.
snagglepuss
(12,704 posts)at gun point had Jahar not been injured and Jahar could have then forced him to drive out of town.
