Listening on the police scanner, at the coordination involved... The care to get a negotiator.. To get him alive...

Great credit to all those involved....

I'd say it was only 20% of the normal level of traffic, but they weren't afraid of being arrested for 'disobeying'.

He wasn't holed up in his house. It's like a mayor issuing an "order" for people to stay inside because of storm conditions, for everyone's sake. People usu. do, but there are always a few who don't. They're not arrested.

people, even "order" people to stay off the streets in bad storm conditions. Or to evacuate. And then the public isn't allowed back in right away. All that is for the safety of the public, property, and the first responders.

But people who don't abide by that aren't arrested. It's a common sense request (or official order with no teeth) that most people agree with and abide by voluntarily. But some stupid people don't. You know the ones...the ones who are still driving around in flood waters, expecting to be rescued when there are no responders out on the streets because of the danger.

Because then the owner felt free to go into his yard where he discovered the blood, the torn tarp and eventually the suspect.

Funny how that worked out.

I've heard no reports of the car he hijacked being found near the site of his capture so it seems reasonable he didn't drive to that location.

A blood soaked person would have been pretty conspicuous to the public also if they weren't all inside.

when you fuck with them they will stop everything - shut the whole place down - and find your ass.

that being said, I find it somewhat humorous that the guy who actually found the guy was checking on his boat: his "baby."

"There's blood on my boat. Let's see, should I notify the police or rip the tarp off to see what's in there...?"

Something that charts how fervently people are talking about martial law here - or equivalent hyperbole in other situations - compared to how physically close they are to the event in question.

I remember someone actually tried to do one of those charting people who were trying to file suits or something about the "ground zero mosque" notroversy a few years ago, and the results were kind of enlightening.
