28 Year Old To Play One Year Of Football For UTEP Because

Coach Kugler has already committed a scholarship to 28-year-old Iraq war veteran Michael Kelly. Bad news: In a brutal ruling from the NCAA, the linebacker Kelly's three tours of duty in Iraq evidently count as three years of eligibility, as he has been declared a senior instead of a freshman. There's the NCAA's thanks for his service.

The NCAA is insane! Three tours of duty in Iraq equals three years of college eligibility? BULLSHIT!

and sounds like an editorial rather than factual statement.

My guess is that he signed up to compete in college athletics or enrolled in college at some point, and the NCAA rules actually allow him to play when he otherwise had lost eligibility.
