Kansas has a "life begins at conception" law. Women are no longer free to govern their own health care in Kansas. That law also opens up the possibility of criminal charges for women who get an abortion out of state lines. And doctors now can be charged with murder if they effect a pregnancy that goes bad.

(10,602 posts)It does not matter to the fundies that it is not constitutional. They are above the constitution because God is above human law. They are counting on 6 Catholic justices who must believe that life begins at conception if they are to remain Catholic in good standing with the Catholic church.
Welcome to the new normal when the Pope is our President.

(31,514 posts)will cost the state taxpayer dollars when the lawsuits are filed. Arkansas is facing the same type of mentality now after the legislature overrode the veto on a bill that makes abortions after 12 weeks illegal.

(111,243 posts)and get it as far as the state supreme court.
They keep pulling this shit in the hope that it will get to the USSC and those 5 conservative goons will overturn Roe v Wade.
They know the states won't ratify a constitutional amendment. It's too unpopular. They have to lie to get elected and start this bullshit at the state level.
I hope Kansas wakes up soon. That goes for North Dakota, too.

My wife wishes someone like Rachel Maddow or Thom Hartman would actually do a story on this issue.

(53,661 posts)Obama has done all he can to protect women's rights to health care and dignity; it will take someone with a proven track record to do keep that up. In the meantime, we need to turn all of these states blue. They are taking us bck to the Dark Ages. Thanks very much for the links to those devastating pieces.

My wife's Grandmother had 3 kids and 2 miscarriages. My Sister-in-law had one miscarriage recently and she does have kids. Don't these law makers understand how complex the human body is?

But you know what, it's no surprise. Just this month we read reports of State Rep. Peter Hansen of New Hampshire referring to women as "vaginas" in an email to his colleagues. THIS IS IN 2013, dammit!!!
If there was any question about the thought processes of the angry old men who want to control women, it has been answered.
Clearly, they only think of women as body parts. Vessels for their sperm to fertilize, nothing more.
Just so we're clear on what we are dealing with.
Thanks, Mr. Hansen. That was actually very helpful.

(114,904 posts)and no, under the Constitution Kansas docs cannot be prosecuted for either abortion or a pregnancy "gone bad".
It's not this that threatens abortion in Kansas, it's the TARP laws. I don't even know if the Center for Reproductive Health or the ACLU will bother challenging the personhood piece.
In any case it's foolish as hell to focus on the personhood shit while ignoring the TRAP laws that really do restrict a woman's ability to get an abortion.
I don't know why you can't grasp this.
<snip>
Instead of making the abortion illegal, theyre trying to destroy the institutions financially so its not even feasible to offer abortions, Schulze said. The bill also creates a personhood trigger, so if Roe v. Wade is overturned, it would make all abortions in Kansas illegal.

(12,022 posts)since 30% percent of pregnancies end up in miscarriages, and who else is there to blame?
cali
(114,904 posts)do.

But abortion opponents call the fertilization language a statement of principle and not an outright ban on terminating pregnancies. The new law specifically notes that any rights suggested by the language are limited by decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court protecting access to abortion.

(114,904 posts)this part of the law does NOT effect abortion rights in Kansas- and I've explained why several times in this thread and in an op, but everyone is ignoring the facts I've put forth and allowing themselves to be distracted for the dubious pleasure of engaging in drama.

If an adult tried to suck your blood and nutrients and cause you to vomit, and stretch your skin against your will you have the right to stop them correct?
Could they argue for self defense?
