Sorry, but they know something we don't.
But I suspect we will find out in due time.

(1,372 posts)So, here we have , what, 50 cops and many with AUTOMATIC rifles
and they have those SWAT team military personnel carriers and
at least 15 police cruisers and they can't stop the van or blow out the tires
or, at least, have one of those chains with the tire spikes on the perimeter?
I'd say, with all the thought that went into tracking these guys, not much
thought went into keeping them under control.
There's got to be a comic strip about this one for sure!

(3,287 posts)Oh great crimefighter, you should apply for the police chiefs job. I'm sure had you been on the scene instead of watching it on TV you could have straightened out that situation in a hurry and brought order to what surely must have been a chaotic situation. Just like on TV.

(1,372 posts)Good idea from post #47 - Where were the helicopters?
You certainly have very low expectations of your police department.

(9,494 posts)No one knows what these people were carrying and how many people they would have tried to take with them. Do you have some suggestions on how they could apprehend someone in a situation like that? They are all lucky the brother's body explosives didn't detonate. Everyone could have been killed.

Marrah_G
(28,581 posts)I don't think they even had choppers there yet.
Keep in mind that this shootout is what brought all the cops/helicopters there. At the very beginning they weren't all there. It was 2-3 cruisers dealing with all that.
This is not an episode of some cop show.

(35,692 posts)They very well may have him cornered but aren't ready to move in. He may have bombs in a residential neighborhood. Why is everyone in such a dang hurry all of the time?
Rex
(65,616 posts)Haven't you seen any movies? That usually causes a lot of pandemonium for a few minutes. I cannot believe they did not put 6,000 bullets in the vehicle. That part seems strange, unless he hit all the cops as he fled.
Marrah_G
(28,581 posts)seems like maybe they wouldn't want to open fire on the car in a heavily populated area not knowing what was inside it.
Rex
(65,616 posts)That must be taken into account.

(65,616 posts)Didn't hear about that little gem...ya cops wanting to avoid losing arms and legs...AND being charged by an SUV. Also, since this is all speculation - IF I was a cop and I saw the perp run over his own brother while charging me AND throwing bombs...I might be a little hesitant in charging headfirst into the fray.
