The aunt of the suspected Boston bomber claimed Friday afternoon on CNN that her nephew Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was framed for the attack.
"I'm suspicious that this was staged," Maret Tsarnaev said from Toronto, Canada.
Asked who she believes framed them and why, she responded, "Whoever needs this. Whoever is looking for those who need to be blamed for these attacks."
"Who is interested in this case? When you are blowing up people, and you want to bring attention to something, for some purpose, you know, you do that math," she said. "I'm used to being set up. Before I left former Soviet Union country, that's how I lived. Always."
The aunt said she found the FBI footage of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan walking to be "strange."

(15,220 posts)I think the family would have been better off if they left the publicity to the uncle, who seemed to come off better (to me, at least) than the aunt.

(15,220 posts)Both the aunt and the uncle indicated that they'd not had contact with the nephews for some time.
(The uncle did indicate that there had been a family rift and that the nephew had called recently to mend the rift. The aunt gave a possible explanation in saying that the uncle expected a lot of Tamerlan and was disappointed when he dropped out of school - so perhaps this was the cause of the rift).
Either way, neither the aunt nor the uncle have had any real interaction with the boys in years - and much can change in that amount of time.
But the uncle came off better distancing himself from the boys and asserting that he felt the bombing was a horrible act. The aunt seemed defensive and then wasn't really all that credible if she had (indeed) not had contact with the boys in that amount of time.
Just my take on things at this moment in time...

(8,684 posts)The issue earlier this week aside. He and his brother were running from the cops...shooting at cops....throwing things out the window at cops....he ran over his own brother's body trying to escape....they are/were a lot of things...I don't think innocent is one of them.

(13,485 posts)It also sounds like her denial is less grief and more reaction to past experience which does not make her an objective choice for opinion. Painful, manipulative experiences can make for a twisted world view. Denial can also be part of having pathological problems.

I find this whole thing a microcosm of the Russian community and their issues.
