She can't believe her nephews could commit such autrocities. FTR her denial is more than understandable. Lots of info about the family

(37,305 posts)I can't imagine how horrific this must be for them.
When the uncle said these killers had brought dishonor to their family and their people and their religion, I absolutely understood what he was saying because that is what I have been taught. We are a reflection on our people.
When the aunt comes to terms with this she will have a hard time.

She sounds like Alex Jones in drag. I deal with people like her almost daily in my practice, they can be very noisy and disagreeable, they always challenge experts and authorities. I want to like Russians, and they can be great clients, but so many of them get my hackles up.

2. Blaming everyone else when it is they that fucked up.
3. Loudness as a substitute for fact.

Arguing and denying seems to be their first line of defense.

(41,930 posts)then I will withdraw. But in MY experience, those kinds of claims posted in a public place without any addition that you are a part of that experience and it is not universal perpetuates stereotypes and has the potential to cause unfair perceptions of an entire people.

(41,930 posts)You don't like them; they don't like you. I know there are difficult people in all walks, but there are also fine people in all walks. It just bothers me that you say "Russians" as if they are all one opinion, one point of view, and not approachable in any other way.

(23,973 posts)a deal is made, it kinda jades you. Members of other first-generation ethnic groups don't seem to treat negotiations in the same way as they do.
I use the term "Russian" as it is used in my industry as a blanket term that covers Eastern European emigres; Polish, Russian, Albanian, Ukrainian, etc., as it seems they tend to share a homogeneous outlook about doing business. i.e., everyone is out to screw them.
It seems to stem from a shared cultural experience for workers coming from the former Soviet Bloc nations.
My experiences can be retold by a great deal of others in the industry, my opinion is not unique whatsoever.

(18,585 posts)Nobody wants to believe that people they know and love could do something so terrible. So what if she's lashing out? We see that all the time with family members of people who do horrible things- "He was getting his act together, he was nice to everyone." etc.
Is that so unbelievable? Imagine that someone you bounced on your knee as a kid grew up to something terrible. How would YOU reconcile what you remember of the kid with the acts of the adult?

(35,693 posts)If any innocent person were to "get tagged" as a suspect, they are not going to stick up a 7-11, shoot a cop, hijack a car and load it up with bombs, guns and ammunition. I don't see how even a family member can get around that.
