Bomber Suspects’ Aunt: ‘Why The Hell Would They Do This?’

BENJY SARLIN 12:53 PM EDT, FRIDAY APRIL 19, 2013

An aunt of the two suspects in the Boston marathon attack told the Toronto Sun she was stunned by news of the bombing and subsequent deadly manhunt, which claimed the life of a campus police officer at MIT, Sean Collier.

“This is a huge tragedy for the family,” Maret Tsarnaev, 45, said. “My brother’s two boys, they are growing up so fast. My first reaction is, ‘Why the hell would they do this?’ But when I go through all the material, it’s not giving anything … the whole world is now making a decision (on them) now by just seeing these pictures and not having anything else.”

The boys' aunt, Maret Tsarnaev, lives in Toronto and spoke to CBC News. She says Tamerlan is a stay-at-home dad to a two-year-old daughter. His Christian wife worked outside the home while Tamerlan cared for the toddler, she said.

But it looks like Tamerlan may have felt isolated from American culture.

"I don't have a single American friend," Tamerlan was quoted as saying on the photo gallery site. "I don't understand them." At this point, Tamerlan had apparently been living in the States for at least five years.

When people are uprooted from tradition-driven patriarchal societies such as Russia's Caucuses, "they have a difficult time of not only connecting with people who do not belong to their culture, but also viewing them as human beings," Leonid Trofimov, a Russian history expert currently teaching at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., told CBC News.

very telling, I think, and suggests the older brother was, minimally, suffering severe culture shock. The Uncle interviewed earlier today said the father of the brothers had returned home to Russia; kind of strange considering he was granted asylum here in the U.S. According to what I heard on MSNBC about 20 mins ago, the house the police were surrounding in Watertown was also the residence of the mother of the brothers.

he couldn't get past the language barrier, and had brain cancer so returned to Russia, then Germany for treatment then back to Russia. I think it may be in the link I posted already but am not sure. So, it seems maybe the family really was isolated and the younger the most outgoing who managed to make friends. No excuse at all for the horrible things they've done, by any means.

Hopefully, more information will be released in the coming days that will give clarity to the situation. I feel badly for the family of the two brothers, but more so for the innocent people and families who were killed or injured in this attack.

No terorist group has taken. Credit for the ombings. If al quada were involved, tney would be bragging about thir victory as yhey have done in the past.

I still think these guys were the ones to place the bombs and not necessarily the ones who made them or made the plan.
